No longer was I in a small hallway but a large empty room. The room was a silvery white shade with a high ceiling and a low hanging chandelier that looked like it belonged in an old horror flick. There were two doors on the far side; the left door seemed to beckon to me and I couldn't help but step closer and closer to it.
The silver handle creaked as I turned it. I slowly pushed the door open. The room resembled a surgery room with white walls, bright lights, and a silver table in the center with wires running everywhere from it to a couple monitors. It reminded me of the dreadfully white room in the virtual world.
What was lying on the table itself was what really shocked me. A disfigured man's body lay there. The man was twice as large as the average man and his veins were clearly seen on the surface of his skin. The man's eyes were closed.
This was one very large man, he barely fit on the table. There was a long row of stitches on the man's throat and more stitches running up and down his arms.
What is this place? This was horrifying. Some weird experiment that DOVE clearly deemed necessary to keep hidden? The room began to shake. I looked back at the man and his eyes were wide open. He grunted and sat up, the wires pulling tight behind him.
"Who are you?" I asked the man, knowing he most likely wouldn't answer.
"Hnngh," the man grunted.
I sighed. I hope nothing bad happens. The man grunted again and started to float above the table. Wait, why is he floating? What's happening? The wires ripped out of the man as he floated higher. Up and up he went and rotated so he was facing me.
The man grunted again and objects began to lift up from around the room. Knives, wires, and a few monitors began to form a circle spinning in the air. I was in aw, this man was using powers! He had to be using powers!
My excitement faded in an instant as a knife flew at my head. I barely twisted out of the way in time.
"Wait!" I yelled.
The man payed no attention, flinging a monitor at me. I jumped out of the way and the monitor crashed against the wall right where I had been standing a moment earlier, shattering the screen into tiny pieces.
What did this all mean? If there were no powers in the real world then what was this man doing? I jumped out of the way, pain searing my shoulder as a knife grazed my skin. I jumped to the side as another monitor flew at me. How long could I keep this up?
The man grunted and the knives and other objects stopped their circle rotation and spread out in the air all facing me threateningly. Then several things happened in what seemed like the span of just a few seconds. The objects flew at me all at once and I knew there was absolutely no way I could avoid them all. This was it. If I wasn't killed by this then I knew I would at least be seriously injured. I braced myself, accepting my fate.
Everything flew at me closer, there was a flash in the air, a ripple, and the objects fell harmlessly to the ground. The man looked behind me and I turned to see what was there. Jennifer stood behind me, her arms stretched out. She had been the one that had stopped the objects. She moved her ams again and there was another ripple in the air as the man's arms, legs, and head were torn away from his body. What remained of him lay scattered across the room, his eyes open and a blank stare on his face, no emotion.
"How did you do that?" I asked Jennifer excitedly.
I quickly tried to use powers myself but nothing happened.
Jennifer sighed, "Well, I had been hoping to postpone our project but I guess things have just accelerated a lot more quickly than I thought. I suppose I'll have to take you to General Scott now, although he is not gonna be happy about the change in plans."
