I went to my contacts and dialed Izuku. "Izuku? Hey, it's me,"

"Oh, hey [F/N]! Something wrong?" he asked.

"No, everything's fine. I just needed to ask you something," I said.

"Alright, what's up?"

I glanced at Ochako and nodded. "So, I have these tickets to this firework festival on Friday and I don't have anyone to go with,"

"Fireworks?" he asked.

"Yeah, it's basically a glorified carnival," I explained.

Izuku was silent for a few moments, thinking about his answer.

"Why not? I mean, normally you'd bring a girl or something as a date, but I'd feel bad if I said no," he said.

I flashed Ochako a thumbs up. "Sweet, we can meet up Friday afternoon and head over then. I'll see you there,"

"Yeah, see ya!" Izuku said.

I hung up the phone.

"So, now what?" Ochako asked.

I leaned back in my chair and yawned. "Well, that's phase 1 complete. Phase 2 is me faking a sickness so you can go with him as my replacement," I explained.

Ochako nodded. "Okay, I just need to mentally prepare myself..."

I chuckled. "Good luck with that. I'm gonna head home now," I pulled some money out of my pocket and placed it on the table. "Use this for the ramen. You'll need to save some money for the festival,"

Ochako stared at me and smiled. "Thanks, [F/N],"

"Don't worry about it," I said. "See you tomorrow," Then, I walked out of the ramen shop and went home.

...

Friday, judgment day. It seemed like Thursday went by so fast that it never even happened. I stayed home from school to add more credibility to my lie of being sick. Since my dad left for work early, he wouldn't know about it. Yeah, I was getting behind in my classes just so Ochako could go out with Izuku. But, I didn't really mind. I always thought, "It's for the greater good," or some cool-sounding phrase like that. So, when the time school ended came around, I got out of bed and called Izuku.

'Okay, time to put on my sick voice...' I thought.

"...Hey, Izuku..." I muttered.

"[F/N]! Where were you today? Are you sick?" he asked.

I mustered a fake cough. "...Yeah, I caught a cold yesterday..."

Izuku sighed. "That sucks... What are we gonna do about the festival, then?"

I smirked. "...About that... I don't want to put those tickets to waste, and Ochako said she always wanted to go to a fireworks festival. So, would you mind going with her instead..?"

'Phase 2 has been set in motion...' I thought.

"Sure, I wouldn't mind!" Izuku exclaimed. "But, wait, wouldn't people get the wrong idea if they saw us?"

"...Don't worry about that, just go and have fun..." I said.

"Alright... Thanks, [F/N]. Get well soon!" Izuku said before he hung up.

I lied back down in my bed and sighed. "She better be ready for this,"

Not even a minute later, I heard a knock on the front door. Reluctantly, I got out of bed and walked over to the door. I slowly opened the door and saw Ochako standing outside.

"Ochako?" I asked.

Without responding, she sluggishly walked in and sat at the living room table.

"Come on in..." I whispered. I walked over to the table and sat across from her. "Why are you here? Shouldn't you be getting ready for tonight?" I asked.

She continued to stare at the table.

I sighed. "Well, I was going to text you and say that Izuku turned down the offer," I joked.

Her head shot up and she stared at me with an expression of pure shock.

I chuckled. "I'm just joking. I don't know how else I would've got your attention,"

Ochako pouted and looked back down.

"He accepted, by the way," I said.

She nodded.

"Still not mentally ready?" I asked.

She nodded again.

I sighed and stood up. "What are you so worried about? He doesn't hate you or anything..." I said.

"I know..." she muttered.

I walked over and sat next to her. "He accepted to go with you. If he didn't want to, he could've simply just turned down the offer,"

Ochako tightened her grip on her skirt.

"He's expecting to see you there, Ochako. I'm assuming that the last thing you want to do is disappoint him," I said. I placed my hand on her shoulder.

Ochako quickly turned to me and stared.

"You're the kind of person who hates disappointing people, right?" I asked.

She slowly looked back down at the table and nodded.

We sat in silence for a bit before I realized something. "Hey, why did you come here anyway? Isn't my house in the opposite direction of the festival?" I asked.

"I-I just feel more comfortable here," she stuttered.

I smiled. "Alright then," I stood up and walked over to my room's doorway. "Well, I'll give you some time alone to think. Call me if you need anything, alright?" I said.

She nodded.

I closed my door and lied down in my bed.

...

I shot up in my bed and glanced at the time. "Crap! I fell asleep!" Quickly, I scrambled out of bed and ran into the living room. "Ochako-?!"

She was already gone. But, a note was on the table. I walked over and picked it up.

"Thank you," read the note.

I stared at it and smiled. "Guess she made her decision," I whispered.

Then, the feeling of doubt and regret came back. I put my hand up to my heart and gripped my shirt.

'Wha- What is this feeling..?' I thought.

I stared at the note. "I can't... I can't leave her alone..!" I muttered. Quickly, I ran out my door and sprinted towards the festival.
