By the time we reached the outskirts of New York, I was ready to just fall asleep and never wake up. Dayna was still healing from her encounter with the Fae and Sage was keeping his arm wrapped tightly around her. Fabian wasn't as angry as he was in the basement, but he kept fidgeting, a trait he only exhibited when he was stewing in his own rage. It didn't help that we'd been driving almost non-stop for two days.

Tiberius appeared to be calm as he drove down another empty highway. He was actually furious with us. The lecture we received when we first got in the car was intense. He kept smiling sweetly at Dayna though, apologising for his outburst. A comfortable silence had settled over the car and no one seemed willing to break it. But there was a question that had been drifting in the back of my mind for the past few days. Something the Fae had said that had me wondering.

"My parents," I said, getting everyone's attention. "My real ones. What happened to them."

Tiberius was hesitant to answer. He knew whether or not they were alive. He always knew things like that. And it was like he struggled when it came to revealing certain truths. He cared for every soul in this car, even the ones he'd only just met. He didn't want to hurt anyone by revealing too much.

"You knew that Fae." I continued. "So did Fabian. She knew me. Did my parents know her too?"

"Your mother yes," Tiberius answered after a moment. "Your father knew of her, but they'd never met."

"And how do you know her?" I questioned.

"She was someone I used to consider my friend," Tiberius replied sadly. "But that was before she betrayed your parents. But that's a story for another time."

I nodded in agreement. I trusted that he would tell me later when it was actually important for me to know.

"And my parents?" I asked.

"I'm not sure." Tiberius sighed. "I lost track of them around the same time I lost Raziel. I've tried to find them but it's not easy. You Gassagens have always been hard to find."

"Gassagen?" Sage scrunched his face in confusion. "What the hell is that?"

"Cassiel's last name," Tiberius answered. "His real one."

"I'd ask why you never told me." I laughed softly. "But I already know it's because I never asked."

Tiberius didn't laugh but I did see a slight smile shine through. "I also wasn't sure of how invested you were in all of this. This prophecy isn't a joke. There are those who have heard of it, ridiculed it, but this isn't funny anymore. It's serious. This prophecy tore your family apart, Cas. It's the reason why you've never known where you came from, where you really belong."

"My parents threw us away because they were scared."

The flame I had only seen a few times before ignited in Tiberius' eyes. "Shut up." He spat. "You have no idea what you're talking about. Your parents were only doing what they thought was right, even though it killed them to do it. They only ever wanted to keep you and your brother's safe."

"And leaving us to die was their way of keeping us safe?" I retorted. "Guess they get the parent of the year award then huh?"

"That was never the plan!" He screamed.

The car fell silent again, the only noise was the car rumbling down the highway. Tiberius looked close to tears at this point, his breathing uneven.

"Then what was the plan?" I asked softly. "Because I know that there are things about my family that nobody knows but you and you haven't even tried to tell me what they are."

Tiberius released a heavy sigh before speaking. "The plan was to keep all of you together. Take you and your family somewhere safe. Which isn't what the prophecy states. You and your brother's had to be separated, and your parents had to be out of the picture. The prophecy made sure that your family was torn apart in whatever way it saw fit. And it wanted violence. It wanted chaos and pain. And that's what it got, a long fucking road of nothing but blood and tears."

I didn't reply, letting his answer hang in the air. I turned back to look at Fabian who had murder in his eyes. "How do you know the Fae?"

"It doesn't matter," Fabian replied lowly. "It's ancient history."

"How ancient." I shot back.

"Before I trusted you ancient."

I sat in the passenger's seat of the car and sighed. I had seen this house before in my dreams. It looked exactly the same. The grass was overgrown and looked dead and there were wildflowers everywhere. The light blue paint was flaking off of the exterior walls and the windows, if not broken, were covered in a think layer of dust. I could see the broken light next to the door. The door that would be in perfect condition if it weren't for the angry looking claw marks that ran through it.

"Someone was having a bad day," Fabian commented from the back seat. "That's a nice bike though."

A navy blue motorbike sat in the empty driveway, the paint job gleaming in the sunlight. Michael was obviously home. "I have to go in there alone, don't I?"

"He's not our brother." Sage soothed. "He's yours. We'd be intruding if we went in there with you, you have to do it alone."

"He was seven years old the last time he saw you," Tiberius chimed in. "He knows you, your scent. He won't turn you away."

I nodded my head slowly as I undid my seatbelt. I had just popped the car door open when another voice piped up from the backseat.

"We love you, Cassie."

"I love you guys too, Dayna."
