1.2: Spencer's questioning.

Start from the beginning

As they all stood outside, they gave each other a final farewell, and the men went to the parked car, now drizzled with rain. Spencer was able to finally get a glimpse of the car, which all just reminded him of the severity of the situation he was dragged into. Though he did want to learn more, he was hoping that he wouldn't hear the iconic noise their car made, or his phone ringing with them on the other side. For though he desired the truth and full story that was hidden from him, he felt as though he would greatly prefer the story that was made for him. The story that, though full of loose ends, would contain just a little hope for the outcome of Project.

Spencer then closed the door to the outside once the gentlemen had left, and went straight to the kitchen to check on his meal. He didn't think he would be that long, but it seems that things overran. As he came closer to the kitchen, he could sadly smell the disappointment that was his now burnt meal, and could see small streams of smoke originating from the oven, rising upwards and slamming his hope to the floor. Spencer rushed over and took the disappointment out of the oven, and sighed to himself. "Welp, I guess I'm having something else for tea instead." He went over to his fridge, still stocked from head to toe in meals, and picked out some bacon and butter. He then moved the failure of a meal out of the way, and proceeded to prepare his secondary dish. Whilst he waited for it to cook, he went over everything that happened, how he had finally talked about all of this to someone who could promise him answers, how he was able to finally let go of some issues, and be relieved that something can now be done. Though he still had some regret for not saying everything, he was sure that he said enough to ensure that the truth would be revealed. He kept this hope with him, making him feel ready for anything, as this experience had finally relieved him of many fears he once had.

Then suddenly his new phone went off and he jumped out of his skin.

He was unsure as to who it could be; at this time with this weather, who would be calling him? It couldn't be the gentlemen, as they had only just left, and had given him their number, which wasn't the one on the screen. Curiously he picked it up and answered, regaining his courage. "May I ask who this is?" Spencer asked politely.

The voice on the other side seemed chill, casual, yet gave Spencer a shiver as soon as he heard it. The voice must originate from a man, given the deepness of it, yet he wasn't quite sure. The man (as Spencer guessed for now) spoke with clarity and certainty, never using slang terms. He had reminded Spencer of someone, someone he had known a while ago, but he just couldn't figure it out. The man calmly said, "Yes, you may indeed ask."

"Then who are you?" Spencer asked, believing him to be one of those prank callers or telemarketers. The man replied, "Well, I would have hoped you remembered me, old friend, but alas it seems your memory is not as good as it used to be." Then Spencer heard what he presumed to be a chuckle, yet it sounded more as a coping mechanism than genuine. Spencer, getting more agitated with his jokes, bluntly said "I've had to remember a lot lately, so excuse me if I'm a bit fuzzy on one voice." The man was silent for what seemed like hours, with Spencer awaiting his reply. Whilst he waited, he made sure as to not burn his second dish, and took it out of the grill. Finally, the man spoke once more. This time, Spencer knew who it was. "You have finally been asked about them, have you not? With a statement like that you surely must have finally been visited by those people. I was hoping this would happen before I called you, as I wanted to make sure you did as Project asked, if you have not, then this is a wasted phone call, and I shall leave you be."

Spencer was now annoyed, as he really didn't have time to deal with this guy's riddles and japes. It had been so long since he had ever heard from him, and now of all times was the worst.

Spencer had never met him, he had only received phone calls from him. The first time was freaky enough for him to block the number, but then he called again, with a new phone. In fact, anytime he did call, it was from a different number, sometimes even a foreign one. Spencer was sometimes curious as to how rich he was to be able to do that, or how sneaky he was –Spencer had definitely believed that he must have stolen some of them. What annoyed him the most, however, was how he knew so much about him, whilst Spencer knew nothing about him. Also how no matter how many times he would get a new number, this guy would always soon enough call him. He had thought about telling the police, but the man had already said that they wouldn't be able to find him, and that he was protected pretty well. The guy never gave his name, only asked that he be known as "P." as he had said that it "Somewhat was an initial of me..." Spencer though, however many times he tried, could never guess his name.

P once again spoke, "Are you still there? If you are still confused about how I can always find you or get a new way of contacting you, I've already told you that I have my ways."

"See? That! That, is the problem I have with you! You're always able to get inside my head and know everything about me. It's just gross, dude." Spencer huffed, and started to make his bacon sandwich. He didn't care about what he had to say, in fact he didn't want to know, yet he knew that if he decided to hang up then and there, P will just call again and again. Spencer took in a breath, and finally asked the question that P was anticipating, "What do you want to know, and what do you want me to know?"

"Ah, indeed, I must hear how this went! What did you say? Did you talk about how you met them? How you trusted them? Did you give them your piece of 'My TRUE Finale'? Did you add the extra information, that you wanted to say, but wasn't allowed? Did you break any rules?" P asked the last question darker and more seriously, as it was something he took very seriously:

The rules.

Spencer couldn't figure out how, but P knew everything there was about what he was asked to do if something happened, yet P was never brought up when Project talked about it. He knew each person's statements, each letter given, each secret that they knew and had, and was able to piece it all together before anyone else. Though he never told anyone, for he played by the rules, and the rules stated that he must tell no one until they are near the end, near the truth. So he had kept his mouth shut, only answering questions which the answers were obvious, or that they already knew the answers to, he spoke with clarity and confidence, yet confused everyone he knew that was "playing the game", as he said. If any of those who were given information that they shouldn't have said yet, were punished. Never in a way that harmed them physically, but a way that was considered way worse, and even broke some people. Thomas, for example, once tried to do more than was asked, and even tried to get involved quicker than needed, and thus P made sure that if his plans were to be altered, so was theirs, and in a way that broke him mentally, and made him more susceptible to pain and fear. It's also the reason why he had changed his name –his name was originally Brian, and he had hoped this change would get P away from him... emphasis on hoped.

Spencer soon replied back, "No, I didn't 'break any rules', I don't see why you care about them so much, though."

"Because they bring order! I seriously thought you of all people would have already figured that out! Anyways, I am glad you are still playing by the rules... Well, accept from that little loophole you found." P responded, Spencer could hear the smirk in his voice. Bring order? Yeah, like that's what the rules are for, Spencer thought to himself, fully aware that P probably already guessed this thought. And soon enough, he calmly, confidently said, "They do in fact keep order, just not the order you are trying to think of; think glue, not cello tape."

"Like that helps me, how about you stop speaking in your annoying riddles and do what you said you would do when this entire thing started!" Spencer yelled at the phone, resisting the urge to defenestrate the phone and have to buy a new one. P was silent for even longer now, insulted by Spencer's words. He soon regained his composure on the phone, and slowly, begrudgingly, spoke. "It appears that I did indeed say that. Very well, then, I shall be more blunt in my approach with knowledge, as you seem unable to get a grasp on what I'm trying to tell you. The rules were not meant to force you to do certain things, but to guide you. They were not meant for you to be stuck to, but to keep you all together." Spencer took it all in, listening carefully; he would not get another opportunity like this in a life time. P continued, annoyingly slow for Spencer's liking, "These rules were not meant for you to break, but were not meant to force you down one path. Loopholes here and there clearly show that, right? They are only meant as a guide to keep you all together, and to stop you from doing something too... rash." Spencer listened to every word, increasingly worried if he had now done the wrong choice.

Soon enough, he could not handle the pressure and asked P, "So the choice I made, to give that extra information to the gentlemen, was that a good or bad choice?" Spencer heard the deep thoughtful sigh P gave as he thought about it, "Well, I am not sure. They never told me everything, and most of what I know is from what I deducted, as I was able to find out what you all were told. All I can say is that it better be a good choice."

"Why?" Spencer worryingly asked, afraid of what he might've caused. P waited, and waited, and waited, making Spencer ever more scared, causing him to shout, "Well?! Why should this be a good choice? TELL ME!"

"Because," P warned, "If it is the wrong choice, then we could all be doomed to a worse fate than imagined."
