"Madeline?" I heard my mother, Alice Peterson, call. "Time to wake up!" Ugh. Another day of my freshman year. As some may know, being a high schooler is such a struggle. You're always teased by seniors (except if are one, James Leter!), you're unable to graduate for about 4 more years (which to me is way too long), and lastly, you're always tired and somehow depressed. I fell out of bed due to being close to the edge as always, and landed face-first. I used it for support as I trembled up. "You okay, honey?" my mother asked.
"Yeah, Mom, doing just fine," I grumbled, not even wanting to be awake. My eyes suddenly widened, and I was fully awake. I ran over to my pretty pink calendar, and I discovered why today was surprisingly like my cup of coffee.
Today was my first prom night.
"Mom!" I suddenly shouted. "Tonight's the prom! Tonight's the prom!!" I was panicking. I haven't even asked anyone to dance with me tonight! I got my fanciest clothes, a blue, glittery, wedding-dress-like dress, and hung them on my "To Wear" bar. I then got my second fanciest clothes, a black, shiny etiquette, and decided to wear it to school. I got my black high-heels on, grabbed my backpack, and ran to school, not even bothering to give my mom a goodbye kiss.
On my way to school, I suddenly bumped into a man with a black robe and gloves. I couldn't even see a bit of skin on him. "Beware," he warned. "for the master is coming for you. I usually don't doubt anything, but I highly doubt you'd stay in this world when you meet him."
What the hell was that? Who was this "master" guy, and why would this guy say he was after me? Before I questioned him, he was gone. I walked to school, shrugging off this strange warning.
Little did I know, this guy wasn't insane.
