The pan sizzled and fizzed as the oil upon it cooked. The hot fire cooked the fresh kernels above the oil as they popped and sprung open. Fresh popcorn was my favorite, especially when cooked at home.
"Now that I think about it.." Sam began. "Your wrist is basically getting beat up while the other one is being praised."
"What do you mean?" I asked, totally confused.
"Well, I always hold your left hand, and you wear your bracelet on that hand too."
"Mhm.."
"And you broke your right wrist after burning it."
"Oh.. yeah, that's right!" I agreed.
"Plus, you do everything with your left hand now since your right one is pretty much useless."
"True.."
Sam took the pan off of the stove so the popcorn wouldn't burn. He poured the fresh snack into a large bowl and poured melted butter and salt on top.
"I'll go put in the movie!" I exclaimed while Sam carried the popcorn bowl to the living room. I put in a movie we both haven't seen before and sat down on the couch next to Sam.
Pulling the blanket over us, I leaned against Sam, curled up in a little ball. He put the bowl in his lap and pressed play. The movie began and we both uncontrollably ate the popcorn.
"Hey, they look just like you!" Sam exclaimed pointing to the tv.
"Pfft, her outfit is terrible." I joked.
"You're cuter."
"Would you date her if she moved here instead of me?"
"Pfft, me date her? That's like asking me if I'd date a garbage pale."
"But you said I looked just like her.."
"N-no.. I mean.. she's a stereotypical movie character, nothing compared to you."
"I'm just joking, Sam.. you don't need to get so worked up over it." I giggled, throwing a piece of popcorn into my mouth. "You're cute when you're worried."
Sam threw a piece of popcorn into the air and caught it in his mouth as it came back down.
"Show off.." I huffed, attempting to do it myself. Sam threw another piece into the air and caught it again.
"How do you do that?" I asked.
"Simple. Just throw it and catch it." Sam replied, throwing another piece into the air. Before it could reach his mouth, I grabbed it and ate it.
"You missed!" I laughed. Sam took a small handful of popcorn and shoved it into my mouth.
"I think I aimed pretty well.." Sam smiled, clearly trying to tease me. I shoved some popcorn into his mouth too, eventually tackling him to pry his mouth open.
After finishing the popcorn in his mouth, Sam took the last few pieces in the bowl and stuffed half of it in my mouth and the other half in his. I giggled while trying to finish the popcorn before him.
"You're a fast eater.." Sam said putting the bowl on the ground.
"It's worth it to win." I replied.
"Win what?"
"I finished the popcorn before you, I win!"
"Alright.. what's your prize?"
"I want.. a kiss."
"That's not a prize, you get at least one a day!"
"I don't care." I tackled Sam again and kissed him, he willingly kissed back. He placed his hand behind my neck, pulling me closer. Not noticing the movie ended, we heard the loud music at the credits. Sam pulled away and looked at the TV.
"I guess we finished that movie!" He laughed.
"I don't even remember what happened, we'll have to watch it again some time." I responded, sitting up. I didn't realize I was laying on top of him until I got up. I felt my cheeks turn red as he sat up next to me.
"You're quite the aggressive one." Sam rubbed the back of his head.
"Oh, I'm sorry! Did I hurt you?"
"Not really, I hit my head on the arm of the couch though.. I'm fine, just a stinger."
I rubbed his head and frowned. "I'm sorry sunshine.."
Sam smiled. "I like that name."
"Sunshine, sunshine, sunshine!"
"Okay, you can stop now.."
"Sunshine sunshine!"
Sam threw himself on top of me and put his hand over my mouth, preventing me from speaking. I laughed and licked his hand. Yelping, he wiped his hand off on the couch.
Sam was about to kiss me until we heard a rapid knock at the door. Curious, I looked out the window behind the couch. I saw Sebastian and Abigail waving at me.
"Umm, what are they doing here?" I asked, closing the curtains.
"Who?"
"Sebastian and Abigail.."
"Aw, crap.. I forgot to give Sebastian his cards back!"
Sam forced himself off the couch and to the front door. I followed. He unlocked and opened the door, a giggling Abigail and Sebastian on the other side.
"What's so funny?" Sam asked.
"We've been out here for ten minutes knocking at the door!" Sebastian exclaimed. "All we could hear was Olivia repeating 'sunshine' over and over again."
I felt my face turn red in embarrassment. Sam sighed and dug through his bag at the doorstep. He pulled out a pack of cards and handed it to Sebastian.
"Next time call or something.. Olivia's deaf." Sam said.
"Am not!" I yelled.
"You clearly are, we've been out here in the cold for ten minutes." Abigail joked.
"Then again, Sam isn't deaf.." Sebastian pointed out.
"Sorry, we were watching a movie!" Sam tried to make an excuse but failed.
"Make out after the movie next time then." Abigail giggled. Sam shut the door waving them goodbye. He took my hand and led me back to the couch.I pulled the blanket back over myself. Sam checked his phone. I could see a text from Sebastian popped up.
"What does he want now?" Sam groaned.
"Probably another card deck." I responded.
Sam opened the text to see a picture of Abigail in front of my window. In the window, you could see Sam violently shoving popcorn into my mouth.
Sam chuckled. "Maybe I'm the aggressive one."
"Nah, still me." I replied.
Sam put his phone on the coffee table and snuck under my blanket. He put his arm around my waist and pulled me against him.
"Where were we?" Sam asked.
"About to put in another movie." I responded.
"No, you big goof! I meant I was about to kiss you."
"What about the movie?"
"Liv!"
"We should watch Teen Beach Movie next."
"Liivvvv!"
"It was my favorite as a child."
"LIV!"
"Alright, alright!"
I gave in and let Sam's lips press against mine. I could taste the salt and butter on his soft lips. He tilted his head, deepening the kiss. I felt my face heat up. I don't know why I still get flustered, we kiss everyday.
Sam slowly trailed back and I unconsciously followed. He laughed and I opened my eyes.
"First you ignore me, and now you can't hold yourself back." He teased.
I playfully stuck my tongue out at him. He chuckled and kissed my forehead. "You're so cute."
"Go put in the movie." I said.
"No, I don't wanna get up."
"Fine, I'll do it." I pushed the blanket off of myself and started getting off the couch. Sam held on to my arm, preventing me from leaving.
"Nooo, don't leave me!" He cried.
"I'll be back in a second, Sam.."
"Livvv!"
"Saammm!"
"Livvyyy"
"Sammyyy"
"Livvy wivvy"
I wiggled out of his grasp and walked towards the tv. He cried out for me but I ignored him playfully. I put in Teen Beach Movie and went back to the couch.
Sam pulled me on to his lap before I could sit down and covered me with the blanket. He wrapped his arms around me and put his head on my shoulder.
"You left me!" He whined.
"I'm right here, stop worrying."
"But Liv, I could've died without you!"
"I'd be fine with that."
"LIVVY!"
"I'm kidding, I'm kidding! I love you Sunshine."
Sam pouted. I kissed him on the cheek and he blushed a little.
"I looove youuuu!" I sang.
"Ugh, you got me!" Sam gave in. "I love you more." He peppered my neck with kisses.
"That tickles!" I giggled.
