"You work here?!" Scarlett gasped while running around backstage.
"Careful honey, you're going to trip." Steven said while grabbing her hand.
"But daddy!" She giggled. Steve and I walked with Scarlett to the stage and he let her go there.
"Be careful!" I warned.
"I will mommy!" She giggled. I watched her run in circles on the stage and having the time of her little life. I sat on the stairs that were pulled down for the time being. They were probably going to run through a few things today with it down.
"You know, she might end up here one day." Steve smirked.
"I hope so." I smiled. "She already knows so much." I whispered. I watched my little girl, her hair bouncing as she ran across the stage. She giggled quietly to herself and turned her head to look at me. I gave her a little wave and watched her continue to run on the stage. I snapped a pic of her running away from me and couldn't help but feel all warm inside.
I felt like one day she would be on stage.
"Yo! Who's kid is on stage?" I heard a voice. I got a little tense, of course I knew it was someone who was from the show, but we went through great lengths to keep our little girl hidden from the world. I turned to see Anthony walking closer to us and I waved. "Is She yours?!" He gawked.
"Yep." I smiled.
"Hey little cutie!" He smiled while kneeling down next to her. Scarlett turned to look at me and nodded approval. She was so good at not talking to strangers.
"Hi." She mumbled.
"I'm Anthony. I work with your mommy. I get to play her son." He smirked at her. "So I'm kinda like your brother." He whispered.
"STOP THAT!" I yelled while laughing at him. I could see Scarlett's face light up. She was so excited to have a 'brother' now. I watched her and Anthony talk for a little bit and eventually he started walking away with her.
"I'm going to show her off now!" Anthony called out. I rolled my eyes and heard Scarlett's giggles from afar. It made me happy to see her like that.
"See, already has a brother and loved by them." Steven nudged me lightly. I couldn't help but smile. At least she was in good hands.
"I hope they don't scare her too much." I sighed. These people I trusted with me life. Yet, they could be a little much.
"Daveed no!" I heard Renee yell.
"She's fine!" I heard him laugh. Steve and I exchanged a look of concern and walked over to see Scarlett perched on Daveed's shoulders. She was giggling away at everyone, her tiny hands tightly grasping his hair.
"How does everyone like my new look? Does it suit me?" He boasted. Everyone laughed, some of them even asking if the kid was his. It was hysterical.
"Where did you find a kid?" Ari laughed at him.
"This child? Oh. Just wandering the streets. Picked her up and brought her here." He joked.
"That's kidnapping!" She gasped.
"My mommy there!" Scarlett giggled while pointing at me.
Everyone seemed to love her so much. They loved how happy she was and that she stayed quiet too. During rehearsals I didn't even hear one peep come out of her. It was amazing. We ran through a few songs, mainly Non-Stop and the dueling scenes. It was crazy to think that these were the only things we had to touch up on now. When it was lunch time, I couldn't wait to get out of my dress. I felt a little giddy knowing that Scarlett would be gushing over it.
"Mommy!!" Scarlett giggled when she saw me. I bent down to pick her up and felt her little arms wrap around my neck tightly. "You pretty in the dress!" She beamed.
"Oh thank you." I smiled at her.
"Can we go eat now? I hungry." She frowned.
"Yes we can go eat now." I laughed at her. As we walked out of the stage area and more towards the backdoor to leave, I had run into someone I was trying to avoid a lot.
"Oh, who is this?" I looked up and saw Lin walking by. I felt Steve's hand on my back almost as soon as we heard his voice. I tensed up, and I assumed Scarlett felt it since she looked down at me. "Is this your little girl?" He smiled.
"Yeah... This is Scarlett." I tried to be normal. Tried to play it off.
"Hi Scarlett! I'm Lin." He smiled at her. I watched her face go from normal to instant crying already. I was shocked, as was Lin. "Oh... I didn't... I really did not mean to make her cry..." He frowned while taking a step back.
"It's okay... She's a bit shy... And it's her nap time as well." Steve answered quickly.
"Yeah.. Cranky kids." I chuckled. "You'll understand when you have yours." I forced a smile.
"Right... Um... Well, see you after the lunch break." He sighed. I could feel how upset he was. I knew he didn't mean to upset her, but she only reacted that way because of me.
"After we eat I'm going to take her home. I don't think she'll sit through the rest of this." Steve sighed as we walked out into the street.
"That's fine. I didn't expect her to be up for the entire thing." I sighed.
I heard her small sniffles as we walked down the road to a little restaurant. I had usually met Steve and her here during my lunches, so we knew it was a safe bet. We were seated immediately since it was a small place and hardly anyone came in here. Scarlett sat on my lap clinging to my shirt as we waited.
"Scarlett honey, it's okay." I whispered.
"I no like him." She sniffed.
"It's okay. Do you want to sit with daddy?" I asked her. She nodded slowly and I handed her off to him. After a bit, she eventually calmed down and was able to eat her lunch. I just hoped everything would be okay with her. I had never seen her react in such a way... I still blamed myself for it though.
