I gasped. See other people?
“Are you-are you breaking up with me?” I asked, fighting back tears.
He nodded solemnly, avoiding eye contact.
“Fine. If that’s how you think it should be.”
He looked devastated, though I don’t know why. Wasn’t he the one breaking up with me?
“I think you should leave now.” I stood up and opened the door. Sherlock trudged towards the door. He stared at the floor until he was right next to me. Then he looked up.
“Elizabeth, I hope we can still be friends.” He said, tears threatening to spill out of his eyes. I glared at him, and then did the one thing I promised him I would never do.
I took my off my engagement ring and threw it on the floor.
I spent the next few days in my bedroom, weeping. When my boss had heard about what happened, he made me use my two weeks of vacation days to recover. After about four days of crying, I decided to use my time doing something other than weep over him. So I decided to go shopping. Using the money I was planning on using for the wedding, I got a new red dress, a couple of purses, a black blouse, and a mini skirt. As I headed to the jewelry store to get my ears pierced, I bumped into someone I hadn’t seen in weeks.
“Elizabeth? Elizabeth Cumberbatch?”
“Oh, captain Lestrade! It’s been awhile!”
He hugged me like we were friends, but I wanted nothing to do with anyone who was associated with him.
“So, how’s the planning going?”
I strangled a cry. He had reminded me of something I wanted so dearly to forget.
“Oh, Sherlock didn’t tell you?” I forced myself to say his name.
“He broke off the engagement. I thought he would have told you of all people.”
He looked surprised. I wondered why he hadn’t told Lestrade? They were good friends.
“Oh, well, I’ll let you get back to your shopping. Have a nice day!” He walked out of the strip mall and headed to the parking lot. As I walked back towards the jewelry store, I pondered over the reasons why he hadn’t told Lestrade about the breakup. Maybe he was too embarrassed, or maybe he was too busy with his precious work to tell anyone. Whatever it was, I wasn’t going to bother myself with it.
A.N: This chapter is also longer just because I wanted the the next chapter to start at the right place.
