He could taste the gunpowder in the air as he breathed. Markus scanned his environment, taking it all in. The screams of agony, the scent of blood and death growing heavier by the second. All at one, like a tidal wave of pain, it came back to him. At his side, North stood, scenes of war reflecting in her chestnut brown eyes.
"What have we done, Markus..?"
The helplessness in her tone made his heart ache.
"We've started a barbaric riot. I made this, and now I'm going to destroy it."
"Markus," She put a hand on his shoulder, turning him toward her. Their eyes locked. "That's impossible."
"No, it's not. I know it's not." Burying his fear down as far as it would go, Markus took her hand off him and charged forward. Fury against himself and his actions had made him so blind that he didn't even think before moving; he just let his feet take him to wherever seemed right and let his fists do the rest. He didn't even have a gun.
"Markus, no!"
North's desperate cry was lost in the sounds of warfare, as were her near silent tears. Unsurprisingly, it didn't take long for the brave yet blind android to be shot down. He was far from foolish, yet further from sane in that moment. His cobalt coloured blood painted his chest in the fashion of abstract art. A bloody, tragic masterpiece. The last painting he would ever create. Immediately, his lover came rushing back over to him, tears pooling in the edges of her eyes. Back when the concrete was grey instead of red, she would've made a remark about how she was right and he was wrong, but, in that moment, it felt like it was all her fault. Being so cocky and rude had turned her into a horrible leader, and an even worse partner. She could see it all, just when it was too late.
"Markus, no, you can't die! You can't!" North shook her head, falling apart.
"You'll just.." He let out a wet cough. "... Have to go on without.."
Before he could finish his sentence, North began digging her fingers into her skin on her chest, clawing at her artificial heart.
"Our hearts are compatible. You have to take mine." Eventually, she ripped it out, her fingers drenched in blue.
"No, I can't.."
"If you die, our cause dies with you! If you really love me, take my heart! Please!"
Despite his protests, she tore the fabric on his tattered shirt and wrenched out his punctured heart. Markus didn't want to live on, seeing the horror he'd created, but he was too weak to resist. Swallowing hard, North pushed her last thread of life into him, clinging onto consciousness just to see his face for one last time.
"You'll always have a piece of me inside of you. Even after both of us die, we'll still be together. I.." She grew unsteady, falling into Markus' lap. "I love you, Markus."
The poor android couldn't even speak. All he could do was break down into hysterics, sobbing into her chest. As he clung onto her dying body, he could feel everything inside of her shutting down. Just before she met her end, the pair touched hands one last time, bathing in the soft, blue glow from their palms. His lips connected with hers, and he felt her dying breath against his skin as he pulled back to look at her face.
"I love you too." And, like the sky shifting from light to dark, the courageous android's essence bleed away into the night, leaving nothing but an empty shell in her lover's arms. Markus could feel himself shaking, too grief-stricken to stand. Her once warm eyes stared back up at him, sickeningly cold. All he could feel was pain and guilt.

"Markus! Markus, get up!" A familiar voice called out to him, followed by two sets of footsteps growing louder as they approached him. Although, the dejected android didn't move. The torture of knowing that somebody who you valued over anyone else died in the name of keeping you alive had turned him into a sculpture of his former self. The same looks with no movement or soul.
"Markus..?"
Josh knelt down beside his co-leader, his friend. The two didn't really get along at first, but seeing Markus so heartbroken brought tears of his eyes. Just the same, Simon wiped his damp cheeks before assuming the same position as Josh. Neither of them knew what to say. Acting on his instincts, the blonde wrapped his arms around him, whispering into his ear.
"It's okay. We're going to be okay." It wasn't long before the brunette joined them, squeezing onto the two as tight as he could. All three of them holding each other together while gunshots still rang out around them like an symphony of death. The sight was almost beautiful. They remained like that for a while until Markus finally stood, feeling the same rage as before take him over. Taking the nearest gun, he calmly stepped forward, looking his demise straight in the eyes. He knew the only way to escape the horrific nightmare that was holding him like a prisoner in a cell.
"Simon, Josh," He turned back around to the two of them. "You two were the best friends I've ever had. Thank you for everything."
Without another word, Markus pressed the muzzle of gun to his temple and let his finger meet the trigger.

Then, with a jolt, he woke up.
