Lost Within the Stars - An Inanimate Insanity Fanfiction

Lightbulb's POV

     Thank goodness for being recovered! Back at the cave, I was admiring the rubies waiting for Test Tube (whatever she was doing), and all of the sudden something hit me, causing me to shatter! Well whatever it was or whoever did it, I gotta go find Tube now so I can ask her what I missed!

     I walked quietly throughout the game show's parameters, looking for any glint of neon green. It was night time at the moment, so it was going to take a little while to find her. At least, that's what I thought. I quickly noticed the tube of green liquid sitting atop of the soda dispenser, her eyes looking very gloomy and clouded. I also noticed that she was gripping tightly onto that alien egg Fan wouldn't stop jabbering about daily. That's weird, why isn't Fan here? I wondered. I was a bit concerned and wanted to ask her what's wrong, but at the same time it was going to make it awkward. So, being the goofy lil' bulb I am, I spoke loudly,
     "Want a soda? It helps me when I'm depressed myself!"
     I must've startled her, because the next thing I knew, she's about to fall off of the edge of the dispenser, holding onto the egg with all of her life (A/N: Test Tube get a grip man you suck at not getting scared)
     Crap, what do I do?! Should I attempt to catch her? I guess I don't have a choice! I quickly rushed to her as fast as I could, and I succeed. Some of her mysterious green liquid spilt on me and on the grass, but I don't mind.
     Well that's a relief! Don't need more glass shattering today!

     "L-Lightbulb?! What was that for? I could've dropped the egg if I hadn't been holding on to it for dear life!" she said angrily, but with a tinge of thankfulness as well.
     I allowed her to set her feet on the grass and stand up while saying, "Aw c'mon! Lighten up, Tube! I saved your life after all!"
     "Well you shouldn't have- ah, forget it."
     There was an awkward moment of silence before I spoke, "Soooo. . who got eliminated? Where's Fan? Why are you sitting here all by yourself? Do you. ." I repeatedly asked questions, curiosity boiling inside me. I kept going until Test Tube angrily responded, "Can you just shut up already?! Why can't I just have a damn time where I don't have to stress over so many damn things?! Is it really that hard to see my expression? Well look at me now! Quirkity doo, gee! It's all just so stupid!"
     I was shocked to hear that response. What has gotten into her? Did something go down?
     "Well sheesh. All I wanted to do was lighten up the mood, but as I can see you're definitely not up to it." I tried to sound frustrated, but I couldn't hold it together and started crying a bit. Her words stabbed me like a dagger. I started to slowly walk away, until an abrupt grasp on my shoulder stopped me.
     "I-I'm sorry. . a lot has happened while you were gone, and I shouldn't have taken it out on you. Y'know what? Come down to the laboratory with me, I need to show someone something that I'm proud of to relieve some stress." Test Tube said with an apologetic smile.
     "Tell me everything that has happened in the lab, and I'll agree!" I said, feeling better.
     "Sure thing."
     "Oh! And don't forget the sodas!"
     She chuckled. "Alright."

Paintbrush's POV

     The room was completely dark, only lit up by the moon and stars at the window of my hotel room. Fan was already sleeping. I could tell he really needed the rest after going through all of that trauma. For me, however, I'm not that much of a sleeper. I mostly just stare at the ceiling until I get tired or just play with Baxter.

     I was about to drift off to sleep when I got an alert from my phone. It was Lightbulb. Pretty common for her to text around midnight, since she's usually up 24/7.
     I read her message. This is what she sent:

YaGirlLightbulbHere: Ay, tall fella! I'm outside of ur hotel room! I have news to tell u that Tube told me to deliver to u! I'm so excited to see u again!!!!!!! :DDD

     Wait, Lightbulb's in the hotel? How is that possible? The doors lock at 11 PM. . Oh well, she always has her ways.
     I quietly went to the door and looked through the peephole, and sure enough Lightbulb was there, patiently waiting. Careful not to make a sound, I opened the door just a little bit, but being the big goofball she was, she opened it widely and pulled me into a tight hug.
     "I missed you so much!" She exclaimed loudly.
     "Shush! You're going to wake everyone up!" I looked back to make sure Fan didn't get disturbed. Luckily, he was still fast asleep. I gave a sigh of relief. I forced Lightbulb's grasp off and got straight to the point.
     "So what kind of news is so important that it had to be delivered at midnight while everyone's trying to peacefully rest?"
     "Sorry Painty, but Test Tube showed me something super important and cool! She told me to invite you to her lab!"
     "Uh, okay. . what about Fan?" I forgot about all of the drama that has happened between him and Test Tube.
     "She didn't mention him, so I guess not. You already know what happened between them?
     The memory snapped back to me. "Yeah. No need to explain. Now where is this lab of hers?"
     "Just follow me! I know exactly how to get there!"
     "Alright, give me a second." I said before leaving the room. I checked in on Baxter to make sure he was well, and that Fan was asleep. Everything looks fine, so I quietly slipped out of the room and closed the door. Lightbulb then grabbed my hand tightly and ran down the corridor, dragging me along.
     Whatever she's showing me, it better be worth it.

Fan's POV

     I heard the door close, then the loud footsteps down the corridor. Coast is clear. I sat up from the bed and went to the room door. I opened it, double-checking that I had the room key with me. As I got out to the hallway and closed the door, I thought about all of the information I managed to collect by eavesdropping on Paintbrush and Lightbulb's conversation,
Test Tube had something to show in her lab? And she didn't even invite me to go? Ugh.

     I quietly followed the two objects, making sure I was hidden out of their range. I then had a question that was difficult to find a solution to,
     How did Lightbulb get in the hotel in the first place? OJ always has the hotel locked before 11 and going through the windows would be too much work.
     I then heard the creak of a door. I noticed the two going behind a lobby chair, then downwards. I went to their location, and noticed a trapdoor. There was a dusty ladder that lead through a dark passageway, most likely outside. So that's how. .
     I climbed down the ladder, making sure I'm careful with my steps to avoid unwanted noises. Once I stepped off, I noticed a light shining to the left. I figured that must be Lightbulb lighting up the place. I followed directly behind, being weary of the distance between them and I.

     The travel was complicated and long, causing a lot of confusion. The moment I saw the exit, another trapdoor to outside I suppose, I felt a huge wave of relief. The passageway was dark and dusty, so being able to finally get fresh air was great.
     Emerging from the trapdoor, I noticed Lightbulb and Paintbrush already tapping in the secret code to the lab on the soda machine. (A/N: I like to think that Fan already knows about Test Tube's lab) I gotta hustle to get there because the chute that leads to her lab recedes immediately, so I ran as fast as I could to the chute. I got in just in time, luckily for me.

     The moment I fell in, I had to hide so that Test Tube won't know I tagged along without permission. I hid behind the counter covered with scientific experiments and notes, peering to the right. The first thing I noticed was something covered by a white sheet. It looked like a medium-sized machine. Probably just one of her stupid and useless inventions, I thought.

     "I'd like to introduce you guys to my newest and most complicated invention," Test Tube started excitedly, ready to remove the sheet, "the Alter-Universe 3000!"
