Halfrid's POV
The clouds were pitch black, the only light source was the orange flames dancing over the city as screams were heard for miles.
Ivar's cold disembodied laugh was all I could hear, echoing inside my head. I felt so sick.
I walked down the street of Kattegat, there was nothing but piles of ash at my feet. Dead bodies piled in soot. Blood flowed in streams.
I heard two ravens behind me. I turned around to see an one eyed man with two ravens on his shoulders. I knew it was Odin.
"He brings nothing but darkness." Odin said firmly. I knew he meant Ivar.
I heard the love of my life laugh ominously behind me. When I turned around, I saw Ivar covered in blood. He grabbed my shoulder and pierced his blade into my stomach.
I felt a tear leave my eye as my body dropped to the cold ground. The only thing I saw left was Odin, he looked me in the eye and I could feel him telling me what I had to do.
I open my eyes and instantly looked over to Ivar who was sleeping soundly.
I covered my mouth as I fought myself from crying. I slowly crept out of bed and grabbed his axe from where his clothes lied. I grabbed the axe with both hands. I hover my arms over my head before him.
I saw something in the corner of my eye, it was my reflection in my vanity mirror. I felt my heart breaking, I couldn't do it. I couldn't kill him.
I put the axe down in it's original spot and felt the tears leaving my eyes. I start weeping into my hands.
"Halfrid? Halfrid what's wrong?" I heard Ivar asked in a sweet tone as he wakes up.
His voice only broke me in more tears. "Nothing- I'm okay." I lied.
He pulled me into his lap. I felt his breath against my neck as he held me close.
"What's wrong?" He repeated. "Are you nervous or stressed?"
"I-I just had a nightmare." I shrugged, trying to calm myself.
"What was it about?" He wiped my tears away sweetly.
"Y-you killed me." I admitted.
I felt him hug me closer. "I'd never harm you." He kissed my neck softly. "I'd kill myself before I harmed you."
"Promise?"
"I promise." He kissed my jawline. "Now get some rest."
I nodded my head and laid beside him. I couldn't shut my eyes until the sun rose. I kept seeing the image of me about to kill him over and over. The scariest part is that if I didn't see myself, he would have been dead.
I went for a walk during the chilly day. I had slithered out of the fortress without Ivar knowing. He wanted me to rest but I couldn't help but feel trapped.
I noticed Hvitserk drinking outside of a tavern. He looked out to the market in deep thought. I decided to approach my old friend. When he noticed me he flashed a quick smile.
"Queen Halfrid, what brings you here?" He asked over the loud voices of the street.
"Hoping I could bother you for a moment." I glanced around us. "In private."
He nodded his head without hesitation and put down his drink and ran from the porch of the tavern to my side.
"I know where we can go." He replied as he grabbed my hand. He led me to a rural area of the market, he lightly pushed me into a shed with fishing nets.
