It was in the garden of the palace, within the thick bushes of sweet lilac, that I saw him there, reclining on a bench with his eyes flying across the pages of a book. Loki resided in the shadow of a tree, consumed with his mind off in the stars.

I watched him there for a moment, breathless. The breeze seemed to bring the coolness of his skin all the way to my face. And he seemed perfectly content there, with his dark black locks swaying softy in the wind.

I flinched when I heard his voice inside of my head.

"Don't think I don't see you gawking at me."

I pressed my fingertips to my scarlet cheeks. He glanced over at me from across the courtyard and flashed me a pride-melting smirk. I continued to look into his eyes from where I was standing, feeling my mouth uncontrollably return the smile. I used some of the sorcery Loki had taught me to return a message:

"Would it pain you to give me a warning before you do that? I began to question if I'd gone mad."

"Well...did you go mad?"

"Yes. I know because it seems I've dedicated a majority of my time to you. I don't believe anyone of correct sanity would do that."

I saw him laugh to himself from the distance.

"I'm sorry I startled you," he confessed.

"It's quite alright. I'm sure you'll make it up to me somehow."

"I'll make it up to you now if you come beside me."

I peered at him, my face still stained hot with red. He held the gaze, his green eyes revealing apparent undertones of mischief. I rolled my eyes with a playful fondness and stepped forward onto the grass, the blue Asgardian silk of clothing moving about my hips. When I arrived at the bench, I stood there, staring down at him with a sly sort of smile.

He laid his book beside him and gazed up at me. Loki flashed me a cute little grin, his stoic facade now fading away. The truth was, beneath all of the tricks and spells and sarcasm were multitudes of affection, of which he spared only for the people he truly cared for. I brought my hands down to the sides of his face. Loki pulled me forward to him suddenly, his arms wrapped around my waist.
