You slid into the curved booth in the corner of the restaurant assigned by the hostess. Amanda sat beside you while Law and Kid took the ends. Distracting you were the beautiful centerpieces with baby's breath floral designs and cute drink menus held upright by silver holders. The hostess passed around the menus, then whipped out a small notepad from the pocket of her black apron.
"What would you like to drink tonight?" Macy asked, glancing at Law then using her notepad as an escape not to lose herself in his eyes. Or so you'd like to think.
"A glass of Asahi beer would be fine," Law replied, his voice smooth as the drink itself. You and him both knew that some sort of alcohol would be required to make it through the night with the others. It wasn't so much them, just the fact that anything could go wrong at any given time, and there'd be nowhere to run without making a scene.
Law pulled out a black leather wallet from his slacks pocket and flashed her his I.D. before she forgot to ask.
"Do you have Dr. Pepper?" You asked. She nodded. You'd save the drinking for when you got back to the apartment.
Amanda and Kid ordered coke.
When Macy fled to retrieve the drinks, you fiddled with your silverware wrapped in a napkin burrito. It was awkward for .2 seconds before Amanda initiated conversation. You were a bit grateful for that, even if she did tell some embarrassing stories of who knows how you survived your first year living on your own without her. You'd taken what would've been the first two semesters of your college career off to earn a bit more money, but a part of you was grateful for that since you did get to make at least a few friends - Amanda being the only one not to have moved or focused on something else.
You told some of your stories, killing two birds with one stone by talking her up in front of Law and emphasizing how much of an impact she had on your early days alone. Sure, she was a hyperactive loudmouth, but sometimes even the most introverty of introverts need those in their lives to push them forward. Talking about her in this way reminded you of what Sabo had said. The sacrifices she'd made for you, and those you'd made for her.. Now you really had to make sure Kid would treat her well.
"So what do you do, Kid?" Amanda piped up - kindling your curiosity in the process. "Do you work around here?" You guessed she'd never gotten that far when she was alone with him, but he'd likely distracted her with the flirting.
"I usually help out my family in construction around the city. Can't put arms like these to waste," he propped an elbow on the table and showcased a thick arm. Personally not your ideal body type, but you had to admit at least he was putting it to good use.
"He is SO strong." Amanda's eyes were like stars as she stared up at Kid.
She's happy, she's happy, she's happy. You kept reminding yourself.
"The other night he helped rearrange my ENTIRE apartment! He could totally take down that pink creep who keeps stalking us, right (f/n)?"
Aaaand there it is.
"Right!" You answered way too quickly and nervously sipped on your Dr. Pepper, hoping she'd leave it at that.
"I'd rather use my muscles for something more...personal." Kid's voice lowered, and his gaze shattered the air between him and Law. Law hadn't said anything since he thanked Macy for his beer. Was Kid planning something? They did obviously know each other...maybe some dumb score had to be settled somewhere.
You looked over at Law who was incredibly calm. A rigid jaw or contempt glare was expected, but his features seemed rather untroubled.
"Law, you're so quiet!" Amanda leaned over you as if to get a better look at him. He gave her one of his expressionless, half-lidded looks. "Do you work around here, too?"
