My relationship with the sea.
My home country has a lot of beaches to offer and I had never been to any (because I had lived in the mountains all my life - more stories about the remote mountainous life later!) before I moved abroad to work and study. After almost two years, I went back for a vacation and finally hoped to go to the beach!
An afternoon trip came. I tried to take it all in- the air, the water, the sand, oh the seashells! It was my first time to see and touch the beach sands and whole lines of seashells too! All were first times and they were great!
It wasn't crowded but there were many people sitting on the sands, swimming in the sea, taking mobile pictures, and even a couple in wedding clothes having their photos taken! I was then with photographers too and they went on shooting the sunset. The view is always amazing.
I took a lot of photos as well before turning onto my other agenda.
I especially brought a used plastic bag for this tripm. It was my first time doing a beach cleanup and I was giddy. The bag was soon overflowing! I felt inefficient with the number of tiny pieces of litter there were. Some were still clean plastics. Some were there for quite some time.
My take from that experience was to really produce less garbage especially disposables! I can always stop first to think of more sustainable alternatives to things. It is not always an issue of money, but of choosing sustainability over convenience. Second take: Take whatever I could, but also give back. It actually gives peace and happiness.
Who does not feel good if they have done something good for themselves, to others, to the earth?!
The photo above was taken in the Philippines in 2017.
