we don't want to die
that why we try to leave parts of us here
scattered
our name written in our favourite books
our initials carved into trees
our stories told to anyone we think may remember
when do we really die?
when the last person that knew us dies?
when our name is spoken for the last time?
when no one visits our grave anymore?
when the last of what we've touched is gone?
this is why we wish to write books or be in movies or win awards
so our name lives on after we have died
but someday we'll be gone
no one who remembers us will live
nothing we have touched will exist
the lead will smudge
the trees will be cut down
our stories forgotten
even if we don't want to die
someday it will be like we were never here at all
