The Speak Easy

It's been a month and we haven't heard a thing from Robin. I wish I could say I'm ok with that but I just know he's got something up his sleeve. My relationship with Regina has been amazing. She comes to the bar most nights to be with me, on the nights she stays home she has food hot and ready when I walk through the door. It's she's like the perfect housewife. We laugh and talk all the time. I don't think I've ever been so happy and she seems to feel the same. It's a slow Thursday night and Regina is here with me. We are all enjoying the music. Jefferson is a really great band leader, he even gets Regina up there once in a while.  "You going to sing for us tonight sweetheart?"  "Oh. I don't know my love". She gives a shy smile, just like she always does when I ask if she's going to sing. Eventually Jefferson called her up to the stage. The crowd loves her and she hasn't even started singing yet. It's just like all the other times she's on stage. Everyone stops what they are doing and they all focus on Regina. When the song is over the applause is so loud, and Regina's face just lights up. She runs over to me and jumps in my arms. "Baby that was so good. It always is". I kiss her. "Thank you my love". She kisses all over my face making me laugh. "Oh Regina dear. May I have a moment?"  We hear a woman ask from behind us. Regina loses all color in her face when she looks at the woman. "Oh god mother why are you here".  "I came to see you of course. It's been some time. So this is what you like to do now.  Sing little ditty's in dive bars".  "What do you want mother?"  "I came to see if you have come to your senses".  "Mother I'm never marrying Robin. I'm in love with Emma. She makes me happy and she treats me so nice. I feel like a Queen".  "So this is really what you want for your life?"   "I just want to be happy and loved and Emma gives that to me". Her mother shakes her head. "Fine Regina. Just don't come running to me when this all fails. Oh, and in case you haven't noticed yet I told Robin to call off whatever retaliation he was planning".  "You did. Why mother?"  "Because Regina you are still my daughter even though I think you are making a terrible mistake, I don't want to see you get hurt".  "Thank you mother".  "Goodbye ladies". And that was it, she turned around and walked out. "Regina was that for real?"  "Either that or we both just had the same dream". We look at each other and laugh. The rest of the night was uneventful. I told my guys what Cora had said, but I still want them to be on the lookout. I don't trust that bastard. We close up and head home. Regina says she's hungry so she made us something to eat, then we went to bed. A few hours after we went to bed, Regina quickly got up and ran to the bathroom. Worried that something was wrong I rushed after her and I heard her getting sick. I walk in and bend down next to her and rub her back. "It's ok sweetheart". When she was done I gave her a cold wet rag and she wiped her face and then I helped her up. "You ok sweetheart?"  She nods and moves to brush her teeth. "Maybe I shouldn't have eaten so much before we went to bed".  "Well next time baby we'll have to eat something light". She nods and lets out a big yawn. I lift her up and carry her into our bedroom and lay her on the bed and cover her, then I get in next to her. I put my arms around her and hold her close. "Try to get some rest ok baby?"  She nods and we both fall asleep again. I wake up a little later and Regina is still sleeping. I hope what her mother said was true and that Robin won't be a problem. I really wish today wasn't Friday, I'd love to take Regina out for a special night, but tonight is always our busiest night. Monday night I was able to get Ruby to work the bar with August. As luck would have it there is supposed a meteor shower tonight. As usual Regina and I take a little nap before my night shifts. While she's sleeping I slowly get out of bed and pack us up a picnic. I made a few ham & cheese sandwiches. Regina loves fruit so I made a big fruit salad for us. I also put in some chips, a bottle of wine and Regina's favorite dessert, big pieces of apple pie. I hid the food in the icebox then softly get back in bed. Regina rolls over and puts her arm over me. "Hmm. You ok my love?"  She says in a tired voice. "I'm fine babe. Just had to pee". We both fall back to sleep till Regina wakes up quickly. "Emma. Emma. Wake up. It's dark out. Your late. Hurry my love. You need to get to work". I sit up as Regina runs around getting my clothes ready for me. She sees I haven't gotten out of bed yet. "Emma, What are you doing? Are you sick?"   "I'm fine babe. Come here". I tap the bed and hold out my hand. She sits and takes my hand. "I'm not working tonight beautiful. I'm taking my girl out".  "What? Emma you always work. What's going on, why are you taking me out. Are you going to brake up with me". She starts crying. I quickly move next to her and hold her. "No baby. No. I took the night off. There's supposed to be a meteor shower tonight. Wanted to have a nice romantic night will you. I promise that's all sweetheart. I made us a picnic". She sniffles. "You did?"  "Yes baby, I did. I love you. I want only you. Always. I promise". She smiles at me as a few tears fall. "I'm sorry Emma. I don't know what's going on with me. I'm so emotional lately". I kiss her cheek. "It's ok baby, we all have off times. So do you want to go on a picnic with me and watch a meteor shower?"  "Yes. Please Emma. I would love that".  "Ok beautiful. How about we take a shower together then we can get going on our picnic?"  She nods and we go off to take a shower. After we are dressed, I pack up the picnic basket, I make sure we both take a sweater just in case it's cold. I already put a few blankets and pillows in the truck. "All set baby?"  She gives me a big smile and a nod. I grab hold of her hand and we walk to my truck.
