[ PM 03:02:04 ]Their first mission as a trio began in a seemingly run down building, placed right besides a farm of sorts. Markus had gotten a report of a possible Android living alone in one of the floors of the building, so he alerted both Carl and Simon and soon enough, they were on their way. As of right now, they were standing in an old, slightly rusty elevator, waiting patiently to get to the top floor. Carl was calmly leaning against one of the walls of the elevator, arms crossed and head tilted back. Markus was standing perfectly still, eyes closed shut with twitching eyelids and eyebrows. Simon was off to the side, even though there obviously wasn't much space in the elevator. He kept to himself, crouching forward ever so slightly with his arms wrapped around his abdomen. He had a horrible feeling about the whole situation, but he knew quite well that there was no way around it.
The elevator stopped all of a sudden, and the doors opened up to reveal a trashed hallway. Carl was the first to step outside of the crammed space, taking a quick glance around and taking in a deep breath. Since Markus was still perfectly immobile, Simon shuffled over to him and gently tapped his shoulder. No response. He tapped again, this time a little harder. Markus still wouldn't budge.
“Markus? You okay there?” Simon asked, but instead of getting Markus's attention, he received Carl's. Both males were equally concerned. Carl called out Markus's name a few times, and eventually, Markus opened his eyes and came back to reality.
“My apologies, lieutenant, I was sending a report to Cyberlife,” Markus explained, stepping out of the elevator. Simon followed right behind him.
“That's alright. And you know how I feel about being called ‘lieutenant’ all the time,” Carl said with a chuckle, walking down the hallway and towards the door of the apartment that they were supposed to investigate.
Markus let out a quiet chuckle, “Sorry, Carl. I'll do my best to not call you that.” If you paid close enough attention, you could easily notice the faintest of smiles forming on Simon's lips at the remark. Neither of the two detectives saw it. Instead, they had a short conversation about the information that they had gotten on the Android. Simon listened in without making any sort of commentary. The conversation was over with sooner than expected, and was replaced by the sound of Markus slamming his fist against the wooden door. Simon winced ever so softly at each bang, which earned him some sympathy from Carl. Markus didn't notice. He was too focused on the loud clank that came from inside the room. Simon winced a little harder at that specific sound.
“Stay behind me,” Carl ordered, taking out his gun and walking in front of the door. Markus and Simon both nodded and stood behind Carl, who proceeded to kick the door down. All three males made their way into the house, staying alert and making sure that no one tried to jump on them. So far, everything was fine. Just a boring hallway with two empty rooms, nothing unusual. That is, of course, until they opened the very last door, which lead them to a room full of pigeons. Carl found the surprise to be unpleasant, Simon was simply confused, and Markus didn't seem at all phased. They made their way inside and attempted to not step on any pigeons or bird feces.
“Now, Simon, you can take a look around and gather evidence, but don't touch anything unless you have to, alright?” Markus said, glancing over at the deviant. Simon nodded, then started to make his way around. Since Markus and Carl were focusing on the living room, Simon decided to go into the bathroom. It was small and didn't have any pigeons inside, so it was the perfect place for him to gather evidence. He first went over to the sink, taking a quick glance at everything on it. Leaves, thirium, bird feces, and a single Android LED were the only things in it. He carefully dipped his fingers into a small puddle of thirium, then he licked it off and began to process the information. It still felt new to him, but at least it wasn't his first time. He could overhear Markus and Carl talking in the other room.
Simon moved on from the sink and walked over to the wall that was located to his left. He immediately noticed all the messy "rA9"s written in marker on the wall. He looked down and saw a toppled over stool and a black marker. Out of nowhere, he felt a strong urge to pick up the marker and add even more "rA9"s to the wall. It was almost overwhelming. The urge was strong enough to get him to grab the marker, lift it up, and scribble a few more "rA9"s onto the wall. Once the urge had been satisfied, he placed the marker down right where it used to be.
“I thought I told you not to touch anything,” Markus spoke from behind Simon, causing him to jump up out of pure fear. His stress level rose just enough for his LED to turn a soft yellow. Before he could even try to explain himself, Markus walked over to the wall and stared at it. “Why are you deviants so obsessed with this rA9?”
Then came the shocking answer. An answer so bizarre that Markus just about played it off as a total lie. That answer being a weak and slightly scared “I don't know.” Markus immediately started asking more questions, but Simon suddenly didn't feel like answering. After a few attempts, Markus gave up and continued to deal with the mission.
It didn't take long for Markus to realize that the deviant was still in the house. It took an even shorter amount of time to find out where it was hiding. Unfortunately, as soon as they had found it, it took off running. All three detectives ran after the deviant, though Markus was obviously ahead. He took all the fastest routes despite the danger that came with them. He was always just out of reach of the deviant. Carl and Simon took the safer yet slower routes. Eventually, they split up and tried to find a better way to catch up. Simon ended up following Markus and Carl took a different route. Simon, being a beginner, was amazed at how skilled Markus was, but was also terrified for his and Markus's safety. Eventually, they all met up on one roof, where the deviant wrestled Carl and almost threw him off the building before bolting off in another direction. Markus, who arrived there first, hesitated for a second, then ran after the deviant. Simon, who arrived soon after, ran over to Carl without any sort of hesitation and helped him up. He pulled him over the edge and onto the roof, asking him if he was alright and if he was hurt. Carl said that he was fine, that he just needed a bit of help in order to stand up. Simon stood up first, then he helped Carl stand, and at last, they both ran after Markus, who had successfully caught the deviant. Carl glared at Markus for a few seconds, then he shook his head and let out a deep, disappointed sigh. Simon was staring directly at the deviant. Markus, who was too focused on the task at hand, simply gave a short speech and proceeded to arrest the deviant with a bit of Carl's help. All four of them started walking away, then suddenly, the deviant freed itself from the grasp of the two cops, then after mumbling a short “rA9 save me,” it jumped off the roof. Markus rushed after the deviant to try and stop it, but it was too late. There was nothing left to do now except head back.
Carl and Markus began walking silently, but Simon stayed behind for a minute or so. He walked right to the edge of the building and looked down. “May rA9 show you mercy in whatever lies ahead,” he sighed, and with that, he walked rushed over to Carl and Markus. They all took an elevator down, and once they were on the ground floor, they headed out of the building and towards the car. Before they all got in, Carl stopped and turned to look at Simon.
“Hey, Simon, come here for a second,” he said casually. Simon walked over to Carl slowly but surely. Once he was close enough, Carl gently put his hand on the deviant's shoulder. “I wanted to thank you for saving my life up there. I don't know what would have happened if you weren't there. You're not as bad as we thought you'd be. Thank you.”
“It's.. It's no problem, really. I'm just glad you're alright,” Simon admitted with the smallest of smiles. Carl smiled back and chuckled, then they all got in the car. Markus started the engine and began driving back home. While driving, he could only think about what Carl had said. Carl was absolutely right, Simon definitely wasn't as bad as he thought he'd be.
