I labeled this as teen "fiction" because my target age group usually thinks of self-help books or text books when they hear "non-fiction" and don't realize a memoir reads like a...
I saw Ally glance at her phone and quietly slide it back in her pocket. She stood up from the piano bench and turned to face Kiwi as he chucked his water bottle in the trash. K: "Come on, gimme a hug. I'm not gonna see you for three whole months." She gave him one of those weird frown/smile things and walked into his arms, squeezing her arms around him. A: "I really miss you, bud. I know I see you here every week but...it's not the same." K: "I know. I miss you too." A: "Look..." She unwrapped her arms from around his torso and pulled up the piano bench closer to him. A: "You're literally like my big brother. I love you just as much as my own flesh and blood sibling. Aunt Patti and uncle Dan, Jack, my mom and dad; we all love you. Jack misses you ridiculously, and he usually hates everyone. Aunt Patti treated you like her own son. You know we need to talk about this. I let it go for over a year."
He sighed and put his hands on his hips, hanging his head to look at the floor. K: "I really don't wanna do this right now, sweetheart." A: "Well I do, so too bad. It's not fair that I have to see you two moping around like boats and hoes, when you could both grow a pair and deal with it. We're family, Kiwi. You were never just 'Taylor's friend,' we all treated you like one of our own. Whatever weird bond you have with Taylor, you have with all of us. Famsquad doesn't just walk out on each other...unless you're behind on child support. I know you're bottling up how you feel, so start talking." I imagine I was making the same face as he was; wide eyed and shocked at her forcefulness. She just made him her bitch.

He put his hands over his face and threw his head back, like it was paining him to give into her. He picked up a plastic chair and sat in front of her; folding his arms over his chest. K: "I love you guys, too. I feel like little orphan Annie...well, little orphan Kiwi, I guess. I know I have a birth family, but they aren't you guys. It's kinda like Lilo and Stitch, but we're all humans." A: "If we need to speak in Disney for you to grasp this, then fine. Yes, you're our little blue alien koala thing and we'd like you to come home." K: "If I had a nickel for every time I heard that, I wouldn't need this job. How much do you know?" I knew I wasn't getting out of this scott-free either. Of course she knew all about my manipulative ways and the remorse I felt for it. I told her about the letter I'd written him and that I left without saying anything. I told her about the fight we had the night before. But I left out the part about the sex...and the gun...and the suicide. She was gonna blow her load.
A: "I know she lied to you...a lot, but it's not what you think." K: "I know. She told me." I made a confused face at no one. I had started to tell him but never got the chance to, so what the fuck was he talking about? A: "She did? She keeps crying about how she never got to tell you...how-" K: "-She doesn't know, she thought I was asleep. She told me everything, like it made her feel better to just get it out in the ether when I was sleeping because she was embarrassed. Then she wrote me a note that said basically nothing except to leave her alone and left. Did she tell you that?"
