But my love, I also know that somewhere, sometime–– today, tomorrow, five years from now, after I breathe my last breath, or as soon as this poem ends–– you will find your final ruin under a darkened sky full of shattered stars.
And all the stars will fall from grace with your name engraved in the dust of their deaths.

Does the universe have fixed points? Moments in the multiverse that need to happen, that will always happen? No matter the reality or the continuum, are there points in time that the universe deems indisputable? Do such assumptions not seem almost inevitable?
Conclusions on this question vary; there is no way to decisively prove or disprove the theory. But to Maya Black, it has invariably been true. This is because she's living on borrowed time. (This is because she is running from a chiming clock.) The car crash that stole her life from her at eighteen left her hollow-chested and thick-skinned over half a decade later. She slipped through the hands of Death and landed on the Devil's doorstep. Ouroboros, a cult of monstrous misdemeanours and an obsession with obtaining immortality, makes something rotten of her innocence.
