Scene 4 - First Investigation

Start from the beginning

Connor hesitated before slowly turned around and pressing a button on the coffee machine behind us. Gavin started quietly chuckling to the woman in disbelief and gestured towards Connor.

Why is he letting him boss him around like that?

He grabbed the full cup and held it out in front of Gavin, who just looked at it then pushed Connors hand away swiftly with a snarl.

"Do yourself a favour," He poked him in the chest roughly, causing Connor to step back. "Stay outta my way".

He then walked out of the waiting area followed by the woman while Connor held the coffee cup out in confusion. When he released that no one was going to drink it, he placed it on a messy table and sighed. Now that Gavin was gone, I stepped forward and stopped hiding away behind Connor.

"Why did you let him do that?" I asked quietly. He looked down at me with his usual blank expression.

"What do you mean?"

"He was being mean to you, but you didn't try to defend yourself or tell him to stop. Doesn't it hurt your feelings?"

"I'm a machine, (Y/n). I don't have feelings. Detective Reed is upset that androids are becoming more popular and he believes they pose a threat to his job. He has every right to be....unfriendly towards to me". He replied simply.

"Oh" I replied disappointingly. I knew that androids weren't supposed to feel emotion, but just the thought of being in his or any other androids position made me feel sad. I always see them as people, not just machines.

Hank came back and looked at Connor with annoyance. "Well, Jeffrey wants you and I to carry on the investigation. Another deviant was spotted near an abandoned building, so we should take a couple of officers to check it out". He stated. He then looked down at me. "And since (Y/n) is your responsibility, you decide what we do with her in the meantime".

Suddenly I got a burst of excitement. They were going on a mission. A special mission. Maybe if he lets me, I could go with them!

Connor stayed quiet for a second before replying. "I suppose we could leave her with one of the officers, or perhaps she could accompany us to the scene".

"I wanna go with you! I can be a detective!" I jumped up and down on the spot happily and Connor smiled at Hank.

"Well then it's settled. We should head there".

He shrugged distastefully. "Fine. But you better keep an eye on her. I don't want her gettin' lost in the city on your account".

Before Connor followed Hank out the front entrance, I tugged his suit again gently. This would probably be how I get him to notice me since it's been working so far. Plus, he hasn't said to stop yet so it must be okay. He stopped and turned to look at me. "Yes (Y/n)?"

"D-do you think there's some clothes I could wear here?" I asked shyly. I didn't want to bother him so asking him stuff made me anxious. But he seemed willing to help me.

"Follow me".

(Short Timeskip)

I entered room where the boxes of forgotten clothes were. They were all clean so they were okay to use. But it was difficult finding clothes the right size for me since most of them were adult sizes. However, I did find a big (F/c) sweater that covered my knees. Half my legs for that matter! I had a small pair of (jeans/trousers/leggings) on underneath but kept my shoes on. I turned to leave but something caught my eye. It was on a high shelf but I reached it on my tiptoes.

I pulled it down and found......children's stickers? I didn't think a police department would have stuff for kids but oddly enough, there was a fake badge sticker right in the middle of the paper. I smiled and peeled it off to stick on my new jumper. It was a little wonky and lopsided but that didn't matter to me. I also found an old officer hat that had a small tear on the end of the rim. The part that sticks over the forehead. I pulled it over my head and ran back to the door. When I opened it, I saw Connor waiting there patiently. I turned around in circles and giggled to get him to look at me. "Look Connor, I'm a detective just like you!"

He smiled and crouched in front of me. He adjusted my hat on top of my head then straightened out the sticker badge. He pulled his hands away then looked at his work.

"Hmm" He hummed and scratched his chin. "I think there's something missing".

I frowned in confusion. "What's that?"

He stood up and walked towards a nearby desk. He then came back with a blue marker in his hand. He crouched back down again and showed me what it was. I read the tag and it said it wasn't permanent on skin. I smiled widely at what he was suggesting and stood sideways so he could see my temple. He quickly drew a perfect circle on my head then put the marker back where he found it. I tried looking to the side and crossing my eyes to see it but no luck. Either way, I'm sure it was a perfect blue circle.

"Cool! Now I'm an ANDROID detective!" I exclaimed and skipped over to the entrance. I stopped and waited for Connor to catch up with me then continued out the door to leave. I started making weird robot sounds on the way to Hank's car. "Beep beep boop. I. Am. (Y/n). Beep boop beep. Hehehe!"

We both got in and Connor sat in the front with Hank driving while I was in the back middle seat. Hank looked in the rear view mirror without a care then turned back to it with wide eyes. "For God's sake Connor I leave her with you for 5 minutes and you're already playing dress up!"

Connor just smiled innocently as a response. "I'm sorry to have left you out of this enjoyable activity, lieutenant. Perhaps next time maybe you would like to join in on becoming an android for the day-" "No. Forget it" Hank shook his head defensively then started the car in a mood. I giggled and leaned over to the left side window to see the city go by. It wouldn't be long until we reached the scene.
