Papyrus wants to know about your life on the surface. You hoped it wouldn't come to this. He already knows you're royalty, now he's gonna find out how why you got down here.
"How did you fall down?" The skeleton asks as you stride through Hotland. You can't bring yourself to answer him.
"...I was running," You say quietly, clasping your hands together and slowing your pace. Papyrus slows to match your speed.
"Why were you running?"
"I needed to escape," Papyrus sighs and stops completely just before the bridge to Waterfall.
"Escape WHAT?" He asks, exasperated. You sigh shakily and cross your arms. Your focus goes to your black boots and you go completely silent. Papyrus bends down slightly so he's at your eye level, his expression softened.
"(Y/N)...what were you escaping?" Papyrus says, his voice barely above a whisper.
"A betrothal," You reply bitterly, "the man I was supposed to marry was a horrible human being," Papyrus stiffens but lets you continue.
"He only married women for their money and land. Once they became his wife, he would murder them and make it look like an accident. Only me and Xander knew about this, my parents were oblivious. They don't care about me, they only wished to gain land and allies. Xander wanted to protect me, so the day before the marriage I snuck out of the castle like he told me to with my swords, intending to disappear, and...here I am," You take a shuddering breath and your head drops.
"I hope my brother is okay,"
You and Papyrus stand facing each other in an uncomfortable silence, the sound of bubbling lava the only thing making noise. Then, a scuff of heavy boots breaks the silence. Papyrus stands only inches from you, you can feel his eyes burning into you. You're about to look up at the skeleton when he shocks you with one swift movement. Papyrus yanks you towards him faster than the speed of sound and you let out a little squeak. His long, surprisingly warm arms are wrapped tightly around you and he rests his chin on your head. Your entire body tenses up for a few moments, but you soon melt into the embrace. You press your head into his battle body and sigh deeply, tears welling up behind your eyes. You squeeze them shut, not wanting to embarrass yourself and ruin the moment.
"...I'm sorry," Papyrus mumbles, his gravelly voice now soothing and peaceful. Blood rushes to your cheeks at the sound of his voice.
"Thank you, Papyrus," You breathe. The two of you stay like this for a few moments, then Papyrus clears his throat awkwardly and steps away, scratching the back of his skull and glowing slightly red. He tries and fails to hide this because you're still wearing his scarf. You smile to yourself and wipe your eyes. You look to Papyrus and he makes a gesture as if to say "shall we?". You nod your head and cross the bridge towards Waterfall. The rest of your trip to Snowdin is in silence, but it's a nice silence. A comfortable silence. Maybe Papyrus isn't so bad after all... you could be friends! Or more than friends. No, what the hell (Y/N)! You think, He's just being nice to... You try to find a solution as to why he's being so kind all of a sudden, but the only thing that comes to mind is that...
He has feelings for me?

Eventually you and Papyrus reach the skelebros' cabin back in Snowdin. Papyrus kicks open the door FBI-style and marches inside. You laugh to yourself and step in behind him. Once you're inside, you shake a few snowflakes off of your clothes and slip off your boots. You turn back around to see what Papyrus is up to but the only thing you see is a door upstairs slamming shut. Rude... You think, He isn't even going to give me a little welcome? You sigh, the events of the day crashing down on you. Your entire body feels heavy and you shuffle over to a lumpy green couch in the living area to take a nap. You collapse on the thing and your eyes instantly shut. You're just drifting off into sleep when-
