"Uh, boss..." The voice from above called out somewhat nervous, freezing the man's advance mid-step. "We need to get out of here, Flara are coming and quickly!"
"Damn it!" He cursed out in frustration, his breath quickly hitting my cheeks, making me flinch. A few seconds of silence lingered between us. Then time seemed to freeze as he extended his arm towards me. I tried to back up, but the wall behind me held firm. My heart had begun to race as he put his hand closer to my head. I watched in terror as I looked at the dark space where he had hidden his blades. "The reason I saved you was because I want you." He whispered to me, his lips inches away from mine. "Come with us, let me show you all that man is capable of." He whispered as his tough, calloused hand brushed against my cheek, sending shivers down my spine.
"Boss!" The voice called a little louder. "Not the time for you to be flashing your baby blues! We gotta get out of here! Else we're all going to be hung for treason!" The seemingly mysterious man in front of me looked up at him annoyed, the light revealing his stern face once more. A loud gunshot rang out into the evening, and his voice called out again. "I'll try and buy you as much time as I can. I'll be at the boat in ten! Either take the whelp with you, or kill him. We don't have time for you to woe him right now!" Another gunshot echoed out, and the sound of feet pounding on the rooftop began to echo into the distance.
My heart began to pound furiously as our eyes locked once more. "What do you mean you want me? I am nothing to you, an urchin, poor with no skills to use, nothing more than common trash. I have nothing I can offer you, why would you desire such ilk like me...?" His rough hand caressed my cheek as he slowly pulled it away.
"I'll be the judge of your worth little one, I see much worth in you." He whispered again in a soft voice before pulling a small blindfold from his robes. Taking a small step back, he extended his hand towards me. "However the problem still stands. If you want to live through the day, you will put this on and come with me."
I looked at him in confusion as the wind blew his hood back once more. His ocean blue eyes were focused on mine, and his desire became apparent. "I-I don't know..." He suddenly took a step forward, surprising me as he pressed his lips to mine, kissing me with a fiery passion that swept me away. In that moment all of my fear faded away, along with all sense of reason. I knew that whatever he had planned was what I wanted. Once he pulled away, I smiled weakly and clumsily took the blindfold from his hand as I began to blush. "How will I see where I'm going with this on?"
"Trust me little one, I will protect you." The man said again, his deep silky voice returning. Looking over, his shoulder he scowled, then looked back over to me. "But you have to decide, now!"
My mind was racing, and I had no idea what to do. This man had saved my life and told me he desired me, even going so far to say that I had worth. Yet I didn't even know his name. With shaky fingers, I began to lift the blindfold to my eyes. "I choose life," I answered, ignoring every feeling of fear that screamed against my decision.
Clumsily I tied the first knot behind my head when suddenly his hands were on me. He lifted me up, and I tried not to cry out as he slung me over his shoulders. I heard him whisper once more in his calming voice as another tight knot was tied around my head. "I saved you because I knew you were to be mine, and I couldn't let you die there in that alleyway..." I began to blush as he adjusted me against his muscled back and took off.
As he began racing off into the distance, I heard the sound of angry voices behind us. "Hold it scum, we will kill you!" My master didn't seem interested in slowing any, and I began to tremble as their leader ordered them to fire. The boom of their rifles sent out a loud crack into the approaching evening. Whizzing and crashing sounds burst past my head as the bullets buried themselves into objects around us.
