Chapter 4: How To Tell Her

We reached the ceremony room just in time.

"Took you long enough! What were you guys doing?" Grace said.

"I'm sorry but unlike you I like to prepare myself." I said

"So you calling me dirty"

"In other words? Yeah"

"Girls, hush, it's about to start!" Matt said.

"Welcome cadets to the official Pilot ceremony!" cheers were heard everywhere. "Today we have the honor that Mr. Takashi Shirogane is looking for a crew to aid him in his mission to Saturn. He will be here for 5 days inspecting each one of you through your classes, tests and most importantly... The simulator. Good luck everyone and may the best be chosen!" Iverson left the stage and gave the microphone to Mr. Takashi.

"Hello, I hope your having a great day, and as Mr. Iverson said, I am choosing a team, the inspections will begin tomorrow morning sharp, so don't be late."

Everyone prepared for the upcoming days and how they will impress Mr. Takashi with their skills. But Matt and I tried to get close to him.

"Mr. Takashi!" Matt said. He turned around. "Oh my, you must be Matt, call me Shiro."

"Wait a tick! Matt, you know him!"

"What do you mean n/n? I don't."

"I'm sorry, Matt I work with your dad, he tells me a whole lot of stuff about you. And you are?"

"My name is Y/n, nice to meat you sir"

"Nice to meat you y/n. So you guys must have questions, I can see that in your faces."

"oh, you see, I'm a great fan... Actually I wanted to become a pilot when I graduated." I said

"Well Mrs. Y/n you seem pretty excited, I'll make sure to check up on you on the next 5 days."

"Yes!" I whispered

Matt just laughed. "So you work with my dad?"

"Yes. I help him bring samples of places we just discovered so he can study them."

"Neet."

"And you Matt? What do you want to do after you graduate?"

"I... I haven't thought about that yet, but I think I'll follow my dad's steps."

"That sounds great, and knowing your family, I know you'll succeed."

"Thank you Shiro."

"Thanks Shiro, now come on Matt, we have combat training."

Night came by, everyone had dinner and said their goodbyes. Matt and I walked to the roof like every day mostly and stared at the stars... "you know... I think we may have a chance." I said.

"N/n, of course we have, just like everyone else. But even if we do, we are going to get those places for sure"

Matt pov
She scooted closer and looked at me with hope. I hugged her tightly, I loved her, she is the best thing that happened to me.

"Matt?"

"Yeah?"

She kissed my cheak, "I want you to remember that, even if I got the place of pilot but you didn't I will quit."

"No y/n, this has been your dream since forever."

"But Matt, I can't live without you. I won't"

"No, please, this is what you always wanted"

"Yes but I never wanted to go alone."

"But this is what you're good at, you're the best!"

"but Matt."

"y/n please."

"MATHEW HOLT!" She grabbed my face and kissed me, at first I was surprised, but then I realized that the girl I've been head over heels for such a long time was kissing me, so I dived in. When we parted she said with tears. "I will quit because I love you, and I can't bare living with the idea that you're far away."

"N/n, I... I love you too. And if we are not chosen together... I'm not going."

"Thank you" she sobbed... "Thanks Matt, I love you."

"Me too" I kissed her forehead and hugged her again. She stopped crying and said. "Grace won't be at the Garrison for some time so if you want to stay with me I would appreciate it..."

"Sure, I could use a break from Grace"

"Maaatt" she laughed "That's rude"

"Sorry love, I only need you"
