"Stop worrying about me and get out of here Thomas! It's okay, I'll be fine!" Alex yelled between swerving motions. "Just get out of here!"
"No!" Thomas cried out as the vibrations in his fingers began to climb up his fingers. "I refuse to let you die so that I can live. That would make me the worst apprentice ever!" The vibrations began crawling up his arms as the thought of this Cantorian attacking Alex. "I won't let him kill you." He said in a soft tone as his anger began to burn hotter. The desire to protect Alex felt like his entire body was burning away, and all that was left was a burning wave of agony. Lifting his arms forward, the blade gripped between his fingers, Thomas felt the fire burning hotter than before.
"What is this? Does the apprentice have magic?" The Cantorian called out mocking Thomas as one of his eyes turned to focus on him. Suddenly a large blast of white light emitted from the tip of his sword. It burned bright, and soon Thomas was unable to look at it. The Cantorian's gaze began to focus on him, and soon both eyes were heading towards him. Alex let out a cry of fear as the beams grew nearer, and the vibrations began to pulse around him, seeming to slow time. Thomas saw the beam of light fire from his blade, and after it fired he took a step to the side as the beams of light both shot passed him.
The large blast wave was at the Cantorian before he could even dodge and it let out an ear piercing shriek. Alex fell silent as Thomas looked at the Cantorian. The bolt of light had connected with one of the eyes, and had shot right through it. "I hit him!" Thomas cried out excited as the Cantorian continued to cry out in agony.
"Nice shot baby!" Alex called out, turning around to smile at him.
"Just kidding." The Cantorian yelled out in a victorious battle cry as a beam shot forward and cut through Alex's chest. Alex stood there, his body no longer connected from his chest down.
"No..." Thomas mumbled out, panic dawning on him. The Cantorian let out a victorious cry as he turned his gaze towards Thomas. "No, you can't die!" He felt a tear begin to roll down his cheek. "We were just starting to..." He turned his gaze to the Cantorian and felt a deep rage burn within him. "I'm going to kill you. You son of a bitch I swear I am going to end you if it's the last thing I do! He dashed forward infuriated.
The Cantorian began laughing as he began focusing his remaining eye at Thomas. Both beams had become invisible, but Thomas knew where they were. He had blinked his eyes, activating his own implants. Thomas could see the faintest trace of where the beams were located and he used them to avoid every cut, and slash as he continued his assault. "How can you keep avoiding my sight! The Cantorian said through gritted teeth as he continued moving his eyes in rapid attempts to kill Thomas.
"You forget, I have my own implants. And with my eyes, I will kill you!" Thomas screamed as his blade began to burn in his fingers. The metal had changed from a brownish-green to an obsidian black. "You killed my master, and for that I will take your life!" The flaming blade began pulsating, and Thomas felt the vibrations that meant his magic was coming to fruition. "How dare you kill the man I love. How dare you!" He screamed as he sprinted into striking distance lunging forward with a furious battle cry.
"I'm not sure you get who I am. I can see what you are doing. Almost before you can think of it!" The Cantorian giggled as he jumped back, flying towards the wall. Thomas smirked as a large bolt of light fired from his blade, then three more in a rapid-fire assault. Soon the hundreds of these bolts were firing from his blade, and the Cantorian was unable to block them all. He was pinned, and soon he would be dead.
"I think we've had enough fun here for now." A mysterious voice said as a wall of water rose from the ground and consumed the bolts of light. "Let's get out of here while we still can Byron."
"This brat needs to die! He took one of my eyes!" Byron screamed out in fury.
The wall of water receded into itself and out came a man. He was naked, and his body was pale. "Do you want to lose the other one? Fighting this brat Will get you killed." Another wall of water rose behind him as Thomas screamed and fired hundreds of tiny bolts towards the two.
"Don't ignore me!" Thomas screamed as he dashed forward.
The naked man sighed audibly before reaching forward and grabbing Byron. "We're leaving, now." He exclaimed as the two dissipated into water.
"NO!" Thomas screamed out as the two faded from view completely. A weak cough forced his attention towards Alex. He cried out in fear, and rushed towards his side. "Alex? Don't give up okay? I can fix this, please don't die!"
"It's okay, Thomas. I am ready, if the Magegod calls me, then I will happily go."
Tears fell from Thomas's eyes as he wept for Alex. "But what if I'm not ready for you to go? What if I still need you here to protect me? What was all that you said about being my armor huh? Are you going to give up on me just like that?" He sobbed as Alex lay there. His body still mostly disconnected.
"Thomas..." Alex coughed weakly, blood seeping from his wound. "Live on, and I will live through you." He coughed again and slowly began closing his eyes.
"No damn it! I won't accept that!" Thomas cried out as the tears in his eyes began to blur his vision. "Don't give up on me damn it!" He exclaimed as Thomas tried to keep Alex alive.
"Keep practicing, your magic, you'll be, better than, even the Magegod..." Alex sighed out as his eyes closed.
"No, no no no!" Thomas sobbed out.
"You can heal him." Came a soft whispering in his head. "Close his body and use your magic. You hold the very elements in your hands. USE THEM!" The voice demanded as Thomas knelt there.
Dropping his dark blade, he tried to push Alex together with his hands. The shoulder touched the thin fragment that connected to his arm. It came together with a squelching sound making Thomas's stomach turn. "How do I heal him?"
The voice echoed in his head again, it was the same voice that saved Byron. "Use your power and focus on the regeneration of Alex's cells. Imagine a suction pulling his blood back from the ground, and a hand to pull back his soul from it's resting place. You have the power. Now save him."
Thomas tried to focus on the task at hand, but his mind kept wandering. Why are you helping me? You just saved that monster from me. He thought as he began to picture the blood flowing back into Alex.
"Because you are a part of the Magegod reborn. My loyalty is to the Magegod, not to his once divine creations." The voice echoed back into his head. "Now are you going to save your lover or let him die!"
The voice fell silent and Thomas let out a frustrated cry as the thousands of questions flew through his head, interrupting his attempts to heal Alex. Who was that man, why did he save Byron, how did he know how to heal Alex, and why was he helping him. Thousands of questions flew through his head as he tried to focus on Alex. "I swear I am going to protect you!" Thomas promised to Alex's corpse as he kissed his lips gently. "We had just started to fall in love! I refuse to give that up now!" The tingling in his fingers began to vibrate, and soon his hands began to follow suit. He put his hands on Alex's wounds and tried to focus on his task. The skin began to hiss as it began to close, and then his vision began to swim. "It's working!" He thought as his vision began to fade. "I might be able to save you after all!" He thought using his vibrations to channel his magic into Alex. When the wounds finally closed, his vision faded completely, and he started to pass out. The smell of rotting body, and burnt flesh began to overcome his sense of smell, and the picture of Alex joining them took root inside him. "I guess I can't save him. I wasn't strong enough..." He thought as his conscious faded.
