Please remember that the world in which this story takes place is not the earth we know and it is still in the old era. While a new age is approaching they aren't quite there yet. Hierarchy rules prominently with the shifters and with power over others comes corruption of power. There is much suffering but rebellion and change take time. The world I've build isn't a progressive one but it's trying to learn what it means as Red's story goes on. There are character that see abuse and have ideals, that we know firmly are wrong, that they have comes to believe are right.
Remember that abuse is never okay.
