"Hi, Emery."

Emery grabbed her hand, "Come meet Josh." It wasn't a question, and she definitely did not have a choice in the matter. "Josh, this is Delilah. Delilah, this is Josh."

"Hi, Delilah." She nodded in an answer and smiled awkwardly. He smiled, "So, you are new here?"

"Yeah. My family and I lived in a big city, so."

"Definitely a different culture isn't it."

"Yeah, but I like it here. It's calmer."

"Very nice."

Emery asked, "May I ask why you guys moved here."

Delilah had never been so thankful to Jocelyn who had cut in. She did not want to tell anybody what she had gone through. No, not yet. Not ever. "Hey, Delilah."

"Hi, Jocelyn." She glanced at the man next to her and could tell that Josh and Jake were twins, the only difference being the hair. While Josh had the crazy curls, he had the straight hair. She wanted to ask if his hair ever got as crazy as Josh's but bit her tongue.

"This is Jake."

"Hello Jake." He smiled; no more of a one sided smile, making it feel more of a smirk. Before they could really talk, Arlo had cut in.

"Dee! Look, there are doggies." He pointed to them who were wagging their tails by another boy.

"Yes, there are." She smiled. "Did you go over there?"

"Yeah, and they are super nice. Come on."

She glanced at the group, "Excuse me."

She met the puppies that weren't really puppies. They were named Buttercup and Oreo, and the boy that were with them was named Sam; another sibling of the Kiszka's. That made her realize that Ronnie was not there, her only friend.

"Where exactly is Ronnie?" she asked Sam.

"Oh, she had made movie plans with her boyfriend before the party and she didn't want to ditch."

"Ah, gotcha."

Arlo got her attention again. The two having a full on conversation about different movies that were going to be out. Out of the corner of her eye, she could see Jocelyn eyeing her. Delilah didn't understand why Jocelyn was targeting her and it made her feel uncomfortable. She stayed focus on her little brother. He was the only constant thing in her life, other than her parents, that made her feel like she was okay; that she could be better.

Arlo was a smart kid. He somehow always knew what Delilah was thinking about and could get her out of a depression that would last for days. And she wished that could do the same. She was the older sister. She was supposed to take care of him.

"Dee, I think dinner is ready. They were making hamburgers. Hamburgers!" He said in a silly voice, making Delilah laugh.

"Okay, little monster. Let's get you that hamburger."

The siblings were seated with the 'younger ones' while the parents were talking at their own table. Arlo was having his fun with the dogs, tossing them some bread from his burger. Delilah felt out of the loop between the group. They obviously had gone through things that kept them together as well as being siblings. Emery seemed to be the calmer out of the friendship between her and Jocelyn; whom was sitting right across from her. Jocelyn would once again keep glancing at her. Delilah was ready to run. Her flight or fight responses were making her body tighten with nervousness. Jocelyn was a little more of a dominant personality, far from Delilah who would rather stay in the back of the room.

Arlo asked a simple question, something that Delilah answered when Jocelyn finally broke the tension between them. "Oh, so you can talk?"

The table fell quiet; however, the parents continued with their conversation - not like they were close anyways.

"Jocelyn," Emery started, but she chose to ignore it.

Delilah answered, "Yes, I can." Arlo looked between the two, making Delilah try to relax.

"Well, I was just wondering if you could. You know, since you barely talked to anyone here."

Delilah was ready for a retort when Jake made one, "At least she knows when to stop."

Jocelyn's head whipped around to Jake, glaring at him, and her nose flaring with anger. Delilah could imagine the white flash of anger recoil and tighten in Jocelyn. Arlo grabbed Delilah's arm, gripping it harshly. She quickly looked at him; his breath coming in short gasps.

"Arlo, it's okay. Breathe, baby. Breathe." She soothed him, petting his head. He wasn't calming down, so Delilah quickly stood, picking Arlo up, walking over to her parents to say a quick, "It's time to leave." and racing to the car.

Delilah was angry. She knew it wasn't Jocelyn's fault that he had a panic attack. No, it was just part of where he grew up. But she sure did blame her.

Well, Delilah and Jake met.... and there was no chemistry 😱

... that's the point I guess.. I really want to show a relationship grow instead of BAM they like each other and they start right off in a relationship.

Hopefully I'll be making that happen, lol

Anyways, comment if you'd like! I love hearing what you have to say.

Byyyeee

PS. I promise I won't always have commentary at the end 😊
