Two o'clock. One more hour until Mike arrived home. (Y/n) was getting anxious and bored.
Mostly bored.
She decided to test out some of her powers. Well — the powers that wouldn't burn down Mike's house.
She didn't know what all of her abilities were, but she knew some.
Telekinesis: moving things with your mind.
Pyrokinesis: the ability to summon fire at will.
Self healing.
Astral projection, apparently.
Telepathy — although she didn't know how to use it. Sometimes she just heard people's thoughts randomly.
Slight magnetokinesis, the ability of moving metal. Only with small objects. With large objects, it'd harm her.
She didn't know if she had any more abilities, but those were the ones she knew about and could use. If she used her powers for too long, she'd faint.
Sometimes when she uses a large amount of her power, her nose bleeds.
She also had advanced reflexes, which she developed on her own. When in the lab, she never knew when someone would come into her cell and grab her when she didn't realize.
So, she developed a slight sense, so she knew when certain dangers were coming.
"Music," she said, walking over to Mike's boombox. She pressed play.
Dancing With Myself by Billy Idol started playing, making (Y/n) crack a smile. A memory of her and Mike dancing in his backyard to this song flashed into her mind.
She missed her old life. The life she had before she was taken. She'd changed — and she knew it too. But she didn't know how to go back.
There wasn't a way to go back. No matter what she did or how she acted, the thought of the lab would always be in the back of her mind. And everyone else's mind. No one would treat her the same.
Especially since she's still "missing". The boys thought it'd be a good idea to keep her hidden until the lab was taken down. If word got around about her being back, the lab's searches would get even more intense.
Suddenly, she felt off.
Something was coming.
She quickly paused the tape and heard someone fumbling at the door. It couldn't be Mike; it was only two fifteen. He would've told her if he had an early dismissal.
The door opened and (Y/n) heard heavy footsteps above her. Slow and heavy.
They weren't Mike's footsteps.
She heard them come towards the basement door, so she panicked.
She glanced around for something to barricade the door with, but couldn't find anything. The handle on the basement door slowly turned.
In a rush, (Y/n) sped outside, using the door in Mike's basement. She didn't know where to go or what to do, so she just ran across the street to the woods.
All she had on her was Mike's watch
and a half eaten Pop-Tart wrapped in plastic in her back pocket. She ran until she couldn't run anymore, and found herself in the middle of the woods.
Lost.
Meanwhile, the boys were sitting in their study hall waiting for the day to be over. Lucas was drawing, Dustin was reading a comic book, and Will was doing his homework.
Mike, however, was staring out the window. What Dustin said earlier kept circling in his mind.
"What if the guys from the lab come back?"
Mike knew that it probably wouldn't happen, but he still worried. He knew (Y/n) didn't know how to use her powers very well.
If the lab did go back to his house, they most likely wouldn't have been very nice to (Y/n) if they found her. They'd also probably have a way for her not to use her powers.
It was two fifty. Ten more minutes until he was dismissed and free to go.
"Hey," Will whispered.
"Yeah?" Mike replied, snapping out of his daze.
"You okay?" Will asked.
"Yeah, fine," Mike said.
"You don't seem fine. You've been spacing out for the past two periods," Will said.
"Just a little worried about (Y/n), that's all," Mike said.
"Me too. Don't worry, she's probably just sitting in your basement listening to your tapes or something," Will said, turning back to his homework.
"I hope so," Mike muttered to himself.
The next ten minutes were agonizingly long, but the bell finally rang. Mike snatched his backpack off the ground and swung it over his shoulder, proceeding to speed out of the room.
He felt bad for abandoning the party, but he had to know if she was okay.
He couldn't lose her again.
He pushed past people, earning sighs and the occasional "watch it, dork!", but he didn't care.
Mike hopped on his bike and quickly rode home, taking the shortcut through the unmarked roads.
Once he got there, his heart dropped.
The front door was open.
He threw his bike into the grass and ran inside, dropping his backpack on the floor.
"(Y/n)?!" He called, slamming the front door shut.
He ran downstairs and saw the backdoor open as well.
"Shit!" He yelled, running outside and looking around for her.
Mike called her name until his voice cracked and he couldn't yell anymore.
"Dude, we heard you all the way from Smith Boulevard, what happened?" Lucas asked, riding up next to Mike's house.
"She's gone," Mike said, his voice shaking.
"What?" Dustin asked, riding up next to Lucas.
"(Y/n), she's gone! They took her," Mike said, trying not to start crying.
"How do you know?" Lucas asked. Will rode in and got off of his bike, standing next to Dustin.
"When I got home, the front door was open. And she's not there," Mike explained.
"Doesn't she have powers? How could the lab even get her when she can just fling them into the sun?" Dustin asked.
"She's scared to use them. She doesn't know how, and she doesn't know if she can control them," Mike explained.
"Doesn't know how? Didn't she move shit with her mind the other day?" Lucas asked. Mike sighed.
"She can do simple things like that, but she doesn't know how to fully use them," Mike said.
"She doesn't know how to reach her true potential," Will chimed in.
"Exactly," Mike said.
"Well, let's go!" Dustin said.
"What?" Mike asked.
"Let's go find her!"
