"What do you say about tonight," my cousin Rebecca questions. "Huh?" I say, looking her in the eyes, but quickly lose focus. "Tonigh— OH, I see what's going on here. You two always do this! You glance across to him, he glances across to you, one of you just make a damn move already."
"What are you talking about," I question, feeling my cheeks turn warm. "That is total bull! You know exactly what I'm talking about." "I don't." "Asia, it's so obvious!" "I still have no clue as to what you're talking about." I say, closing my locker, and slowly walking away. Rebecca does the same as she rushes to catch up with me.
"So, yes? To the party tonight?" "If I say yes, will you shut up?" She grins, knowing she has won me over, "I'm sure he'll be there," she winks. "Who are you referring to?" "Jacob!" "Maybe, but he'll be there trying to hook up with the prettiest girls there." "I'm certain if he knew you have a thing for him, he wouldn't! For the record, his taste in girls he makes out with are ugly." "True, but Bec, they're way prettier than me," I say, bluntly. That makes Rebecca laugh, "Not even close! You wish!" "You're crazy, Beck. I'll see you after seventh, okay?" I say, reaching my last class of the day. Hello AP Spanish. It's a good class to end the day. It's calm, and the teacher is pretty chill. I guess if I'm talking about that, I should talk about myself.
The name is Asia. I am seventeen years young. My best friend in the world is Rebecca. If you haven't yet noticed. Of course, I have other friends, but I'll mention them later. Anyway, Rebecca and I have basically grown up together. That would make sense, considering, her mom is my aunt. We're basically sisters. Jacob, he's my man crush. I really have no idea why I'm into him. Maybe it's those hazel eyes or that light brown hair that looks soft to touch. Then again, I have always had a thing for him and I've always thought he was pretty good looking. Even when we were in middle school, but now we're older and I guess you only get better with age. Becky likes to give me a hard time because of the year and a half age difference between us.
***As I realized what time it was, I finished up my project and emailed it to the teacher. The bell rings, I grab my bag and head to my car in the student parking lot. I see Becky standing by the car. She is talking with some guys from her seventh period class. "Stop flirting with my cousin guys," I shout, reaching my car, "I understand she's beautiful but I've got to get her home!" I laugh. They laugh, too. "See you later at the party, Becky," one of them tells her. "You sure will," she flirts back, sounding seductive like, while she winked. Wow, I honestly wish I was like her when it comes to the opposite sex. It's not that I get scared, but sometimes, I just don't know what to say.
Moving on, we get in the car and have plenty of time to blow before the party. The way we decide to kill some time is by going to buy some slurpies. Just when we decide to go in line and pay, Jacob walks in with his friend Ethan. From the moment he stepped in, the world around me stopped. He looked over at Becky and I, and waved. I just looked the other way.
Was the line really that long? Or were Jacob and Ethan that quick? We had just stepped up to pay, and they were already in the line beside us. The only reason I realize that is because I look over my shoulder and I see Jacob looking my way. Wrong timing really. I gave Becky money and headed to the car. Becky walks out minutes later with our things and with the boys by her side. Just great. Here I am, wanting to get away from them and she brings them to me.
"Asia, can we give them a ride to Jake's house?" "We? Or me? Um, sure, but I don't know where Jacob lives." "Please? It's close by, not too hard to find. I'll tell you where to go," Jacob smiles. "Well alrighty then." As he tells me where to go, I try my best to keep calm, but my face is giving it away, as my crush tries to make conversation. "Are you guys going to the party tonight?" "We are. You?" "Yes. So, we'll see you guys there?" Jacob questions. "You sure will," I smile. I dropped them off and he thanked me, prolonging his stay in my car.
