after unsuccessfully trying to convince symere that he was being cheated on over the past few days, brittany gave it up. you could lead a horse to water but you couldn't force it to drink, and clearly symere was fine with being dehydrated.
in a way she still felt bad, because it was true that she didn't have proof of the whole thing other than he said/she said gossipping.
for all she knew, it could've very well been a rumor. she's never seen jordan and jahseh acting inappropriately with her own eyes - the only proof she has is the fact that they're a little too close with each other, and rubi's word. which, she hated to admit it, wasn't the most reliable source of information.
she planned to apologize to him, solely to make things right and get rid of the awkward tension between the two of them ever since she dropped the bombshell. allthough she still believed what was said, it wasn't fair to just say something like that without having solid proof.
although - if it wasn't true, then what was that account talking about?
whatever. it wasn't her place to decide if it was true or not. she already did her part as a friend to alert him of what was possibly going on, rumor or not he deserved to know, but still, she felt that an apology was in order.
since her locker was near symere's, she had enough time to apologize between classes without being late to her next one and risking a detention. when she made it to her locker, the tiny boy was also at his, which was perfect timing.
before she said anything, she noticed the deep frown and downcast eyes set upon his face, and the redness of his eyes, indicating that he'd been crying. did he already know?
"hey," she greeted him as she twisted the lock on her locker.
"hey," he returned the gesture, his voice monotone and emotionless.
"what's wrong?" she asks, noticing his obvious state of discontent.
symere shook his head. "nothing. got in a really big fight with jordan today and he's mad at me, he'll come around i guess," he explained, voice barely above a mumble as he did so.
"why would he be mad at you?"
"because i told him about the rumor or whatever that he was cheating on me and he got really mad at me for 'believing that shit' when i was just telling him about it. then we started arguing about other shit and now he won't talk to me," he whimpered, his voice slightly breaking. "he been ignoring me all day and i didn't even say i believed the rumor but i guess the fact that i brought it up at all was what pissed him off."
to say brittany felt horrible was an understatement. if she would've never told symere about what she heard, then he would've never had that fight with jordan, and he wouldn't be damn near on the verge of tears at this very moment.
on the other hand, jordan reacting the way that he did was...suspect to say the least. if he had nothing to hide, why be mad? why blow up to the point that you're avoiding your own boyfriend because he heard that he was being done dirty? this all but confirmed that the rumors were true, at least to her.
"i'm sorry, this is all my fault," brittany apologized, "i shouldn't have told you a rumor like that if i didn't have proof, and i didn't know it was going to cause this. i'm so sorry sy."
symere shook his head. "nah, you don't need to apologize. it's just that jordan and i...we never fight. he's never been mad at me for an entire day before. i wonder if it was how i said it or if he's going through something else..."
