"Hi, Audrey," Em said to the woman behind the desk.
"Hello," She waved back.
The group was just on time. It was two minutes before three when they sat down in the lobby. Em was terrified. She sat right next to Aiden who was trying to talk to her and calm her down but nothing worked.
"Emercyn!" Agent Cooper called out. He walked up to the teenagers. His hair was slick back again and he was wearing a different suit from yesterday.
"Hi, Agent Cooper," Em said with a smile as she stood up, followed by the group.
"Let's get going," He said as he motioned for the teens to follow him. He waved to Audrey before he walked down a hallway.
The hallway is filled with doctors and patients. It was busy and people were rushing around. It reminded Em of her childhood. She used to come with her mom and siblings to see their dad during break. She was always at that hospital. If it wasn't for her illness, it was to see her dad.
"Your father's case is one of the most confusing and mind-blowing cases I have ever done," Agent Cooper explained as he led the group through a door. The hallway they stepped into was cold and dark. There was no one down there.
"Most of the records were at the station but they also have some medical records here and all of your father's patients' files," He said. He led them into another room at the end of the hall.
There was a huge table in the middle of the room. There were filing cabinets and tons of books. Agent Cooper went over to the filing cabinet with the letter 'R' on it. He looked around and pulled out a folder.
"Your father killed himself. You'll see it everywhere on these files," He said but he shook his head. "I have been in this business for fifteen years and not once have I ever saw a case like Mark's. It's confusing and in my opinion, I think it's all wrong."
"I told you!" Sami shouted which caused all of them to turn to her. Agent Cooper looked confused as the group of teens took seats around him.
"Was your dad acting different or strange before he died?" He asked.
"He was his normal self," Em shrugged.
"Exactly! A man who was a surgeon, had a beautiful family, was working for one of the best hospitals in this country, and was completely normal mentally, kills himself out of nowhere?" He asked himself. He pulled out some files.
"When he died, I asked some of the other surgeons here if there were any deaths recently during a surgery. Sometimes, Doctors get attached to patients and when they die, they lose it. Doctors have a hard job. They see some pretty messed up things," He said as he pulled out folder. "There was only one and her name was Katherine." The four of them nodded.
"I know of her and her husband Matthew," Em spoke up. She felt comfortable telling him everything that had happened, he was on the same page as them.
"Oh god," He said as he shook his head. "Her husband has been in the loony bin. Even before she died, he was in and out of therapies and hospitals. How do you know him?"
"He came to my dad's funeral and talked about how she was a regular patient. Then, I seen him in Fairmount Park. He was on his way to check up on his nephew who wasn't supposed to be there," Em explained.
"He lied," He said, getting straight to the point. "The only time your father worked on her was the night she died. She was really bad, I saw some of the photos of her. It was never his fault."
"Why would he lie?" Em asked. She was shocked, she never thought that he was anything to worry about.
"He has a personality disorder," He said. "I personally think Matthew has a part in your father's death."
Em always wondered about her dad's death. She always thought it was weird how all of it happened but she was heartbroken over it. The only way to stop the hurt was to not think of it at all. But even when she thought about it occasionally, she never suspected a murder.
"Emercyn," Agent Cooper began. "I knew your father, I was a friend of his and at times a co-worker. He was one of the most brilliant, happiest, and hardworking men I've ever had the pleasure to know and work with. Your father wouldn't have killed himself and I've been saying that since he died but I had no evidence before I met you. I'm not even supposed to be showing or telling you any of this but I believe that together we can finally solve this. I need you to tell me everything you know about Matthew Crawford."
Em took a deep breathe and swallowed hard in hopes she wouldn't cry. Aiden grabbed her hand and squeezed it. She smiled over at him before she began.
"The first time I met him was at my dad's funeral. He came over and asked if I was his daughter. He told me that his wife was a regular patient and how sorry he was for his death. Then I seen him at Fairmount and that was weird to me. Even if he was looking for his nephew, it was a high school party. Kids party, so what? It was odd.But something happened that's been bothering me," Em said nervously. Lee and Sami gave her confused looks but Aiden knew. Agent Cooper nodded and waited for her to continue her story.
"One night, Aiden and I went to Andy's. I suffer from bipolar, schizophrenia, and anxiety. I have attacks often. That night, I felt like I was about to have a panic attack so I went to the bathroom to calm down. Then someone came in. They had one these black work boots and they stomped there way over to my stall. They stopped in front of it and just stood there. Then they punched the door and dropped me two notes," She said as she handed him the notes. "I didn't even know who it could have been before that but now with all this talk of Matthew, it scares me."
Agent Cooper looked through the folder and pulled out a note. The note was the one her father left when he left this world. He opened it and the other two notes that Em had given him. And sure enough, they were the same writing.
"So you are saying that Matthew wrote these notes?" Em asked.
"There is a very high chance but we can't just accuse him. We need more evidence and we need to question him," He told the group as he packed away all the papers. He stood up and grabbed the folders.
"I need you to do some research on Matthew. Find out everything you want to know," He said. "Meet me at the station tomorrow at noon. I need you there, you are my biggest piece of evidence, Emercyn."
