Get up,
Get ready,
Get going.
It was the same routine every day and I preferred it like that. Routine meant predictability; Predictability meant safety. Today was no different. Since the end of year 11, I have a lot more time on my hands. No longer chained down by exam pressure and forced social interactions. Freedom. This gave me time to focus on my 'ability'.
'What is it?' I hear you ask. I hate to break it to you, but I don't have superpowers. I can't fly, shoot lasers from my eyes or run fast. However, I do possess psychic powers. Anything from tarot card readings to crystal balls.
Realising I was getting to deep into thought, I pulled myself out and left the studio. Work needed to be done in order to pay bills, no matter how much it makes me want to go back to bed. The Restaurant wasn't the worst place to work at, don't get me wrong, but it's not what I want to do. It's not who I want to be. Unfortunately, psychic reading doesn't earn me enough money to sustain my living (even though I am well known across the county as 'the real thing'). I don't have the heart to charge high sums of money for my services, the entire reason I do it is to help those in need.
Not long after I left, I ambled through the back entrance to get to the staff room. There I ran into Lucy, my fellow co-worker at this 'fine' establishment. Together, we grabbed our note pads and went out to start taking orders.
Interacting with customers was long, some liked to wolf-whistle at me as I passed while others liked to rudely glare at me for 'taking too long' to get their meal. The worst was those who didn't tip for no reason, not a single tip. Rude much? It was made more bearable by Lucy's presence. Between customers, we gossiped joked around or talked about the stupidest reddit post we read this morning. Neither of us really cared what we talked about; anything could make us laugh given the right circumstances. Without her here, I surely would've been driven insane.
The only highlight was when Casey walked in. A common customer to both the restaurant and my psych readings, we had grown closer over the past few months. Glancing across the room, they smiled at me before taking their seat and preparing to order.
Soon, Casey called me over: "Hey Kiddo!"
"Hey Cenn" I replied gleefully. Internally, I laughed as I remembered the inside joke between us. Casey was practically my parent, so I called them Cenn (which originated from the Anglo-Saxon gender-neutral term for a parent)
"Is Lucy here too? I'd love to see both of you again!"
"You literally saw us two days ago!"
"Two days too many! You know how much I love my baby girls"
"Okay, okay, okay. I do have to work so what would you like Casey?"
I continued to take her order as well as other patrons. Soon, the sun went down, signifying the end of yet another work day. Finally, the last of the customers left and the doors were locked for the night. With that done, I reached for my stuff and began the journey back home, my mind thinking of the free weekend I have ahead of me. A time where I can pursue the career that I choose.
As I arrived at my studio, I opened the door and my familiar came running towards me before climbing up atop my shoulder. Emile, the ferret, was practically family to me. Always there to pick me up when I'm sad and help me with my ability.
He seemed very restless today, tightly wrappign round my neck in a hug. Deciding to do soemthing to keep me occupied, I sorted out my tarot card set. Curious, I pulled a card out and was slightly unnerved with what found. The moon card stared back at me, the wolves seemingly looking into my soul. Without a seconds wait, I shoved the card back into the pack and did my best to forget that ever happened.
Tired from a treacherous day, I layed in my bed and grabbed my phone, browsing Tumblr and 抖阴社区 or anyting to keep my mind at bay until I eventually passed out from exhaustion after midnight.
