we really do miss what we almost had

third person;

That night, Violet wasn't able to sleep so she got up out of bed, Jamie's word replaying on loop within her mind. She couldn't seem to stop thinking about it.

She couldn't stop thinking about Ethan either. He always seemed to occupy his mind, even in the most random parts of the day. Little things would remind her of him.

She went on one of her late night wonders, making her way to the kitchen. She wanted a drink and she was a little hungry too.

"Can't sleep?" a voice startles Violet, as she turns around, able to make out it was Ethan, in the low lighting. A sudden feeling of deja vu hit her as she realised this had happened to her before.

Ethan was sitting on a stool on the kitchen island, a drink in his hand as he just stared at Violet. He wasn't wearing a shirt either.

"Nah." she says.

Violet couldn't help but look at him, admiring how much bigger he had gotten. He always had a broad build but he was more muscular, just like his brother, meaning he had also been working out more.

As Violet looked back to his face, he now had a smirk plying on his lips.

"What?" Violet coughs, trying to play off the staring, but failing miserably.

"You have a boyfriend Violet." Ethan tuts, standing up, the second half of his body coming into view. He was wearing a pair of maroon sweatpants, which hung lowly at his waist. Violet licked her lips, before squeezing her eyes shut.

She shouldn't even be looking at him. Ethan turned his back towards Violet. Violet saw he had a new tattoo on his back. It was a crown and it looked mesmerising. She hadn't seen it before. He put his cup in the sink, before turning to face Violet as he rested his body against the sink, the two of them saying nothing. Nothing at all.

They were just a few mere feet apart from each other but it still seemed like he was too far for Violet. The silence that filled the air was deafening.

They hadn't seen each other in forever so they were both taking the time to look at each other. The changes. The things that had stayed the same.

Ethan was the first to break the silence. "Staring is rude." Ethan says, knowing that Violet heard him say that too often.

"I'm not staring, admiring." Violet smiles, raising her eyebrows, remembering the time where he had said the same thing to her, in high school.

Ethan chuckles, coming closer to Violet, his hands either side of Violet resting on the kitchen counter behind her. Violet could feel the heat of his body radiating off of him.

She felt the butterflies in her stomach beginning to go crazy at this point. Just like the very first time they had met.

"W-What are you doing?" she asks.

"Whatever you want me to do." Ethan says, a wide smirk on his face.

"Please can you step back." Violet asks, but in her mind, she didn't really want him too. Ethan says nothing, but steps even closer closing the space between them, their faces even closer to each other. It was as if Ethan had read her mind.

The tension was undeniable. Ethan looked down at Violet, the clear height difference between them made it even more difficult for him to control himself.

"Even after all this time, I still have the same effect over you." Ethan says, raising an eyebrow. Violet knew he was right. No matter when or what happened, Ethan was always going to be vulnerable to Violet.

Ethan's eyes looked into Violet's then back down to her lips. Both of them wanted each other; it was clear but they couldn't and they knew it.

"Stop me." Ethan says.

"W-what?" Violet stutters.

"Stop me right now." Ethan repeats. Violet opens her mouth but nothing seems to come out. Her words were backfiring on her and she knew how badly this would end if he didn't stop him.

Ethan licks his lips, looking around before back at Violet, her innocent eyes focusing on his face.

He hadn't seen her in such a long time and for the first time, he did and it felt like every feeling had come rushing back to him. Ever since the day she had left him. At that very airport.

Ethan lifts his hand, cupping Violet's cheek. Violet lets out a breath she didn't know she was holding in as she let him do it.

Then it happened. Their lips met. For the first time in over three years.

Violet kissed him, passion flowing through the kiss. Ethan did too, his other hand in her hair, as they kissed each other as if they were hungry. Ethan lifted Violet onto the kitchen island, not breaking the kiss.

They both pulled away from each other, their foreheads resting against each other as they breathed in and out heavily, not saying a single word.

They knew this wasn't supposed to happen.

They had both just cheated.
