Mary unlocks the door to her apartment. She had just seen her brother in the hospital, he wasn't in the best condition but he was stable. Becca was with Natasha and Sam back at the hospital as well, waiting for he uncle to wake up.
"Yes, T, i'm fine." Mary says into her phone. When Tony found out she was actually still alive he called her immediately.
"You sure? Because i can be down in DC in less than two hours." Tony says over the phone, "I don't like what happened, Mama Ree. None of it."
"I know," She pauses, sighing, "I don't either, but it needed to be done." She replies.
"You are coming to visit me and Pepper. No getting out of it." Tony quips, "I need to see with my own eyes that you're okay."
Mary laughs, "Alright, T, i'll come see you soon." She says.
"I love you, Mama Ree." He says quietly.
"I love you too, T." She says back to him as she hangs up, setting her keys down in the key bowl next to the door, turning on the lights as she hears floorboards creek. The doctor hesitates, "Hello?" She calls out, no one should be in her apartment right now. She grabs the gun from under the countertop of her kitchen as she makes her way into the living room. The bullet holes in the wall were still present. She looks around again and makes her way into her bedroom.
"Who's there?" She calls out again, stepping inside her room. She looks to her bed, seeing a man haunched over on her side of the bed, reading one of her journals she had kept over the decades. She kept letters she wrote to Bucky in most of them.
"Thanksgiving, 1945.." the man murmurs, causing Mary to step dead in her tracks, "That's the day our daughter was born?" The man asks.
Mary flips on the nightstand lamp, setting her gun down, seeing her husband in clothes she recognizes as her brothers and a baseball cap next to him.
She doesn't know what to do, so she nods in reply, "Yes.." she answers, she looks in his hands, he's reading the letter she wrote to him on the day Becca was born. "I knew it was stupid to try and host Thanksgiving dinner nine months pregnant.. but i wanted to feel useful." She says, sitting next to him slowly.
He looks over at her, "She's perfect, Mary." He says softly.
The doctor's hazel eyes cloud in tears, nodding in agreement, "I like to think so." She teases him quietly. "What are you doing here?" She asks.
Bucky looks away from his wife that he barely remembers, "I wanted- no, needed to see you before i left." He says.
"Before you left?"
"I can't stay here, not when everyone is hunting me down because of what i did for Hydra." He says softly, guilt riddles his features and Mary's heart breaks.
