Chapter 26 ~ A Call
"James?" I ask stunned. "You didn't tell me you went here!"
"Connor and I have been students here for the past two years," James says scratching the back of his head. "We had, like, four classes together."
I shake my head, "Why don't I remember you?! You never told me!"
"Mainly because you never really asked," James shrugs.
That boy was everything but normal.
"So you live around here then?" I ask.
"Just down the street, I walk to school."
And if that wasn't a surprise enough, of course, Connor walks into our class, taking the seat on the other side of me.
"Hey Samantha!" Connor says as he takes out his notebookspiral, "Nice that we all have a class together."
"Yeah," I answer. "This is great."
And as upset as I wanted to be, I wasn't. I couldn't be. I was actually glad I had people who I actually enjoyed being with. The summer went by so fast that it was nice to have familiar faces and enjoyable personalities around me. I was lucky. So much for the goodbyes.

Lunch was when things got bad. To be honest, I wasn't the most 'popular' girl at school, I, really, had no 'friends' either. I've gotten quite used to it over the past twelve years of my life, but I didn't want James and Connor to know how different I was.
I take my lunch sack and head to the corner table where no one was seated. I didn't know where James, Luke, and Connor went, but I knew we all had lunch together.
I sigh as I begin to take out my lunch. I had no time to go to the grocery store before school started, so I was stuck with a cheese stick, apple, and fruit snacks. I decide to get up and buy a bag of chips, so I head to the lunch line. At school, you were allowed to cut people in line if you were getting a simple drink or snack. I hop in line in front of some kid, I think he's in my Language Arts class, and grab a bag of potato chips from the cart.
That's when I see Luke in front of me... more like smell. You see, Luke wears a lot of deodorant and after a few days of hanging out with him, you begin to notice his vanilla scent, and after a while, you can close your eyes and know it's him.
"Luke!" I exclaim. "What's up?"
"Samantha!" He answers. "Where are you sitting, let's catch up!"
We sat together at lunch. Just the two of us.

I drive home from school and rush into my house. My phone's been off for the whole day, and when I turn it on while assembling my after-school snack, I see that I've had fourteen missed calls, all from Brad and my mother.
That means there was definitely something wrong, but then again, there was always something wrong in Cape Cod.
