When a mysterious storm brings the two worlds of Hyrule and the Mushroom Kingdom together , many citizens suddenly vanish including Link and Mario . The brave Princess Zelda sets out to find Link and the rest of her people before eventually crossing paths with Princess Peach who is also on her own quest . After the two rescue and reunite with Link and Mario , the quartet discover that their adventure is far from over as their adversaries have also joined forces to rule the two kingdoms .
