Second chances

In Natalia's apartment:

Nat was sitting at her kitchen island with a coffee in her hand while being deep in thought. Yesterday evening she had dinner with Erin whose mind seemed to be somewhere completely else. Of course Nat repeatedly asked her what was getting her attention but the woman only assured her that it's work and that there is nothingto worry about. But she still wasn't convinced. And every time it looked like Erin was about to talk she only asked weird questions about the past and what Nat would do if someone from her old gang would ask her for a favour etc. all in all it didn't make any sense. In this case Nat and Erin were pretty similar. If there was something they didn't walk to talk about. They wouldn't budge. She was shaken out of her thoughts when she hear a knock on her door.

Getting up she opened the door to see Justin standing on the other side, bright grin on his face with a bag of bagels in his hand, and two coffees in his other. Soon all tension left Nat. "To what do I owe this pleasure?" She asked teasingly while leaning against the door frame. He chuckled. "Well I know you suck at making breakfast, and you also usually don't eat properly so I thought why not spend some quality time with my best friend." Nat giggled letting him in, and setting the counter so that they could eat. "I'm sorry I haven't been that present since you've started living here." he said sincerely after they started to talk about her time at district 21. She smiled understandingly. "Hey it's fine. I get that you've been through some things. I don't judge you."He nodded. "Yeah well, still you're finally back and it feels like I see you less than when you where gone." "Well it doesn't always have to be like that. I can make time don't worry." She reassured him when she noticed that he was staring at her. Nat looked at him weirdly. "Why are you staring at me?" she laughed which only caused him to smile brighter. Lightly he shook his head. "Nothing I just...I'm happy to have you back." The woman only chuckled throwing her arms around his neck. "Me too."

After the breakfast Nat was making her way towards her car when she suddenly crushed into someone who wasn't watching where they were going, making her yelp as she fell when suddenly two strong arms wrapped around her waist. "Woah, hey careful there." said a manly voice. Natalia looked up, and saw that it was Kelly Severide. She heard a little about him from Erin. She furrowed her brows. "Careful? How about you watch where you going?" she scolded witha raised eyebrow stepping out of his arms. He grinned awkwardly, rubbing the back of his head. "Sorry about that. I was kind off focused on my phone." He apologised. He bit his lip looking at the small woman curiously. "You're Natalia right? New detective from district 21?" The woman nodded. "Yeah that's me. And you're Kelly the fireman?" She asked even though she already knew holding out her hand. The man smirked at her before gripping her hand tightly. "That would be me." The detective smiled. "Well it was nice to meet you but I gotta get to work so." she shrugged her shoulders apologetically. Kelly nodded. "Yeah sure same. But uhm, if you have the time, feel free to come by the fire station. I would love to get to know you better detective." he winked at her before continuing on his way but not without turning around once again. She had to give it to him. He seemed very charming.

At the district:

Walking into the district Natalia took a seat at her desk. "Hey good morning." Jay greeted taking a sip of his coffee. "Morning." the blonde answered with a grin. Jay raised his brow looking at her amused. "What's that smile for?" he asked making Ruzek look at her as well smirking. The woman only chuckled. "Nothing I just had a good morning." "Yeah 'just a good morning'." Adam joked making her squint her eyes at him. "You know that is basically a codeword for-" "You can stop right there Adam." Nat warned pointing a finger at him. She didn't need Voight or Alvin thinking she might be seeing a guy or something which wasn't even true. She noticed that Jay turned oddly quiet but decided not to mention it. "And to make it clear to you, no it wasn't anything like you're thinking I just had a good morning." she declared looking at Adam in the end who continued to make kissing faces at her. Soon Erin walked in. "Morning" Nat greeted. "yeah, morning." she only mumbled in return making the blonde suspicious once again. Soon Atwater walked in in who's been promoted by Hank a few days ago. They continued to talk about Burgess who didn't manage to make it due to her having had something going on with Ruzek. "There he is." Jay announced getting up when Antonio walked into the room. Everybody started to applause and whistle. Adam walked back into the room giving him the 'present' which was a walker. Making everybody laugh except for Erin which Nat noticed. Making a mental note to ask her about it later on she got up to hug Antonio. "I'm glad you're back." she whispered. He chuckled. "Hey, you should get rid of that frown. 'Causes wrinkles." He teased making her roll her eyes. Antonio knew she was still guilt ridden even though she tried to hide it. Jay came up to him both messing around until Voight walked out. "All right, we're rolling out... five minutes. We just caught a heater." he announced making everyone get ready.
