Is it easy to put on a brave face? No, its incredibly difficult.

But is it difficult to put on a brave face when you've had your broken heart handed back to you after you thought you were rid of it for good?

No.

It's impossible.

"I don't want to hear your pleads."

"I said I'm sorry! Please take it back, I beg you I will do anything please!?" Deceit wept in desperation. His clothing was changing, getting lighter very slowly, but Deceit had noticed.

"Ha. No you won't. I took from you what was letting you do anything, and feel nothing. Now you're useless to me. But nothing is better as punishment than suffering. Leave, before my serpents sense your weakness and swallow you whole."

"Yes your majesty," Deceit bowed shakily, turning for the door and slipping out, clicking it behind him. The second the door closed he fell down, his back sliding down the door as he brought his knees to his chest, sobbing in pitiful grief. What was he supposed to do now? He gripped his cape as it got greyer and greyer, his heart pounding at the sight. He couldn't scream for help, no one wanted him anymore, Virgil was gone and Remus would never associate with him now. He had nowhere to go. In the light sides' perspective, he was a villain. But in the dark sides' perspective, he's weak, and a failure.

He was alone, so very alone and no one could hear his cries. Even back then, before all of this started, Deceit didn't know a sadness like this. It had gravity, holding him down like a chained up criminal.

"How you holding up emo?" Roman asked, sitting down on the couch casually, across from the lounging Virgil who was playing with a paddle ball. "I'm alright," Virgil responded, not really paying much attention. "Uh so, I have a question," Roman said nervously. "Shoot," Virgil said, sitting up and swinging his legs round to sit forward. "What happened to Deceit, when you shoved him in that door?" Roman asked. "Uh well, I'm not sure but something bad," Virgil replied, rather bored. "You seem very okay for someone who just broke down," Roman said. "Yeah I'm chill. Got nothing to start up about, Deceit is damned and I'm a light side, for once everything is actually going great," Virgil said, very monotone and unexcited. "Okay, if you're sure. So, what do you want to do then?" Roman asked. "Nothing, when have I ever done something voluntarily," Virgil half-chuckled. "Never I guess."

It was very odd. Just twenty minutes ago Virgil was bawling his eyes out and now he was his normal non-care-ish self. He was supposed to be opening up more, as a light side, but talking to him now he was just as closed as ever. It didn't make sense. Roman went over the events in his head as he shuffled into his seat and got comfortable. What did happen down there?

Well first of all, Virgil got stabbed with a needle, pretty shocking stuff if you ask Roman. He managed to wake, and shoved Deceit into some room Roman didn't know about. It was orange and sinister, but it was in the Darkscape so it didn't seem out of place. Virgil fainted. Why did he faint, he had woken up already surely he was done with the unconsciousness and was getting better? Logan did a procedure on him, Roman wasn't exactly sure what it did but it somehow cured Virgil so that's all that matters. Virgil was fine for a second, but then he was sobbing, talking about Deceit openly in front of both Patton and Logan, who aren't exactly Deceit's biggest fans. Sure, they didn't know who Virgil was talking about but why would he suddenly open up like that, even if it was in a vague way? He opened up to Roman, he never opens up to Roman. In fact, he never opens up to anyone, so why did he say all that stuff?

Something wasn't right.

I couldn't stop loving him, even though it hurt."

"Couldn't? You don't anymore?"

"No I don't. I thought I did. He gave me a potion, to keep me with him. That's how he betrayed me. It didn't just keep me with him. It kept me the dark sinister side everyone resents. I guess the potion wore off."

Roman finally got it. And he didn't like it.

Virgil said the potion must've worn off. But it hasn't. He's as dark as ever, perhaps even more than he used to be. At least he used to actually have opinions and judgement. The potion never made him fall in love with Deceit. It stopped him from loving him.

It made sense, before all this began, Virgil was his normal dark-side self and he was happy. Then something changed and he wanted to become a light side. And it was then that Deceit stabbed and kidnapped him. The potion made Virgil dark. But not in the way that Deceit wanted it to. Deceit thought that if he made sure that Virgil was a dark side, he would be inclined to stay with Deceit and even accept Deceit's evil. But instead, it made Virgil loose his humanity, just like Deceit did.

To be a dark side, you can't have humanity. You can't have a conscience. You can't truly love someone.

Roman's heart sank. He knew what he had to do. But he really didn't want to. He had to find the antidote to this potion. He knew what he had to do was the right decision, Virgil would ruin the light sides and Thomas if Roman left him like this. It was clear that Virgil was fighting it, like his outbursts of emotion.

If Roman found the antidote, and gave it to Virgil, he would be free and finally be a real light side. But on the other hand, all of Virgil's feelings would come back. Feelings for Deceit.

And not for Roman.

Roman had a decision to make.
