Chapter 23

"You think so?" Shadow raised his head. It wasn't a crazy assumption, it definitely made sense. The energy would have to be stored somewhere, and if he absorbed his limit, it would have nowhere else to go, but instead it seems to be moving through his fur, "Well, lets give it a try then."

He closed his eyes, and he noticed that (Y/N)'s screaming had once again stopped. The room was silent as the other two watched him. What was he going to do? What COULD he do with that collar around his neck.

The hedgehog let out a growl, unable to feel for the energy surging through his body. The collar seemed to be his only obstacle now. And the chains keeping him from breaking free. How was he going to do this?

A door opened, and in walked Stanley, the crazy blonde scientist with a mean streak. His normally white lab coat was covered in blood, and his hair was damp with sweat. The human let out a chuckle as Shadow glared at him.

"That girl is really fun to mess with." The human said, a smile spread out over his face, "She's so stubborn, we're going to be here for a while. The Commander sends his regards, he hopes you enjoy listening to her screams before you are put to sleep."

The blood dripping from his lab coat echoed in Shadow's ears, his eyes were wide in complete rage as the human mocked him from outside the cell. How dare he hurt the one he cared about, and then shove his face in the bloody evidence.

Something snapped inside the hedgehog, as did the chains around his wrists. The hedgehog fell to the ground, glaring complete hatred towards the human, and he felt the collar spark against his neck. The feeling of ultimate power filled his veins, and the scientist went pale.

"Chaos..." The hedgehog walked to the bars of his cage, and out of the corner of his eyes, he saw Rouge and Tails back away. His fur started to glow a bright white.

"Wait Shadow!" Tails cried out.

"We're here too!" Rouge also panicked.

"Blast!" The hedgehog yelled, and a white light enveloped the room. The hedgehog saw the bars disintegrate, the human in front of him turned to ash and the smell of burning flesh filled his nose.

The light in the room slowly faded away, and the hedgehog turned to his friends. Tails and Rouge were pressed into the wall, both of them letting out a groan and opening their eyes.

They were alive? The two glanced at each other, before examining their bodies. Aside from the wound in Rouge's side, the two were unscathed. They both fell to the ground, Tails had to catch Rouge as her legs gave way.

An alarm started blaring, and the room flashed with red lights. The Commander must know they've escaped.

"Get out of here. Now." Shadow said, a white aura surrounded his body, "I'm going to find (Y/N)."

The golden kitsune nodded, before running to gather his things. He went back to Rouge, and helping her stand, the two started leaving the room.

"Be safe." The fox glanced back at Shadow with shining blue eyes, "And please, for the love of Mobius, let me study you after this."

The hedgehog gave a simple nod, and the other two made their way out of the room. Shadow watched them hurry down the hall, before looking around the room. A chaos emerald, the purple one from the temple. Shadow smashed the glass surrounding it with his fist, and hiding it in his quills, started down the opposite hallway to the exit.

It didn't take him long to find the room that (Y/N) occupied. The hedgehog wedged the door open, it crumpled under his gloved hands with ease. Man, he wished he knew of the overflowing chaos energy, it would have been useful before all of this.
