"You've got secrets? What kind?" I asked frowning at her.
"Nothing you need to worry about... The point is, I'm not going to lie to my best friend Lukas!" She pointed her finger at me angerly "You can't ask that from me, and you shouldn't even have to..." She said, completely avoiding my question. I shook my head, knowing she wasn't going to keep quiet about this.
"I know, but it's the way it's going to be. I'm going to talk to the son of a bitch and make it stop."
"Oh come on, once a cheat always a cheat. It doesn't change the fact that it happened. God you're incredibly stupid Lukas!" She snapped backhanding my arm with frustration.
"Excuse me?" I huffed grabbing her hand that just brushed against my arm in an attempt of hitting it.Weak. "Listen to me." I put my hands on her shoulders, her soft t-shirt caressing the palm of my hands and I nervously fumble a bit with the fabric. "You are not going to tell her! You are going to act as if nothing happened and let my sister be... She needs to pass school if she wants to have a future... You're not going to give Jason the satisfaction of having that effect on her life." I said, every word sincere.
"Luk-" She shakes her head, but I interrupted her before she could protest.
"No please, for once shut your mouth and do as I say. You know what happened last time you didn't listen to me..." I said, sounding a bit harsher than intended.
"Oh! So now you're back to blaming me for what happened with Drew?" She hissed, shrugging her shoulders, her face looking disappointed and murderous at the same time.
"That's not what I meant..." It wasn't, it wasn't her fault but that doesn't change the fact that it might not have happened if she had listened. I was only trying to protect her, just like I'm trying to protect Mia from having a miserable future.
I gently pull her towards me because even though my words were cold my body was on fire just by being close to her and the last thing I wanted was for Bella to be mad at me. She didn't move an inch and I wondered where all of a sudden her strength came from. If she's not coming to me, I'm coming to her... As I took a step towards her, she took one back, trying to keep the distance between us. "Bella..." I whined, knowing she's angry with me. Don't be distant, please...
I tried to put my arms around her to pull her close, but she shrugged her shoulders, irritated by my touch and it felt like she was rejecting me. "How is this my fault...?" I asked, honestly wondering why she was being mad at me for Jason Cheating on Mia, like I made him put his dick in someone else.
"It's not... It's never your fault Lukas..." She rolled her eyes while taking long strides towards the table, walking away from me.
"Wow, what's that supposed to mean?" I hissed while she started packing her books, her hands hasty grabbing everything off the table that's hers and shoving it in her bag.
"Nothing... You're asking too much of me... I can't lie to her face!" She said, putting on her leather jacket before throwing her bag over her shoulder. The look on her face conflicted and distant and nothing like before the phone call minutes ago when she was staring at me, biting her lip playfully.
"What are you doing...?" I ask frowning my brows as she passed me on her way to the door, bumping her shoulder against mine as I stood in her path. I grabbed the strap of her bag trying to pull her back. Don't leave... she kept on walking forward, the strap slipping through my fingers just like my chance to be with this girl. Why am I such a fuckup?
"Leaving, I can't do this... this." She said turning around and waving her hands back and forth between us. "I don't want to be your anything if you're acting like an ignorant prick!" Her words were sharp, and I wished I never picked up the phone. I wouldn't have if it meant being back to square one with her, if I had known the evening was going to end like this...
