Everyone has to die at some point, but they didn't expect it to come so soon.
Jackson's words ran through Genevieve's mind as she looked at the picture of the black-haired Filipino woman. Her pearl white teeth shined as she smiled in the picture, her eyes wide underneath her box-framed glasses.
Genevieve didn't know the woman but she wondered what would have caused someone to smile so happily? But that didn't matter now, because Maya Imani, Blind Spot Agent, was now dead.
Genevieve and the four agents were standing in Carson's basement, with papers scattered across a table. Carson's basement was a dimly lit small room with a seating area and a few extra chairs.
The profile of Maya Imani laid on the table, along with her personal details and other government papers Genevieve paid no attention to.
"I think we can all agree on the culprit." It was Flynn who spoke first, taking the attention away from the picture on the table. Maya Imani was high on the command chain in Blind Spot.
She was in charge of the Intelligence Division at Blind Spot Agency. The amount of top secret information she had access to was endless. The five agents that had been killed before her, all worked in the Intelligence Division but none were as important as Maya Imani.
"Vincent Redstone," murmured Nicole.
Deaton nodded at Genevieve, her stare focusing on her. "What's your take on this, Wilfred?"
Genevieve mentally scoffed at her bored tone. She crossed her arms at her chest, ready to not answer Deaton's question. Deaton noticed her sudden change in attitude and rolled her eyes.
If anyone else felt the tension between Deaton and her, they didn't say anything. Genevieve was ready to say something to Deaton that she was sure Deaton would not like. But before either of them could say or do anything, Flynn spoke.
"Redstone has a weapon that they don't know how to use. Someone from Blind Spot knows how to operate it and until Redstone finds who it is that can help them, they are going to keep killing off agents," he squinted at the far wall as his jaw clenched. "But they just killed off the head of the division—for all we know, Imani knew how to fix their 'weapon' and after she did, Redstone killed her off."
"From what I gather, Redstone isn't stupid," Deaton said, tilting the picture on the table with her fingers. "If Imani could fix something that he killed so many people for, Redstone would keep her around longer," she lifted her head to meet Flynn's eyes. "Maya Imani was the head of the Intelligence Division of a Secret Agency. Even if she didn't know about Redstone's secret weapon, she would definitely know something worth killing for—"
"So, you're saying that there is something else we need to worry about," Carlos groaned. He reached for his canteen, opening the cap. Deaton glared at him as he threw his head back, letting the liquid go down his throat.
Flynn gave him an annoyed look as Genevieve spoke before Deaton could think of punching him. "No, Carlos. I think what Deaton is trying to say is you should be investigating leads you already have instead of searching for new ones."
"Exactly," Deaton gave her a small nod as if she couldn't believe that Genevieve would agree with her. She turned to Carlos, "we need to chase down old leads—"
"We don't have any." Carlos deadpanned.
"—and see if any informants have any new information for us."
Genevieve didn't like Agent Deaton too much but that didn't mean she would want to anger her. Kiara Deaton had a murderous glint in her eye even when she wasn't trying to be intimidating. And Carlos was not only angering her, he was also ignoring her anger.
