Teagan brushes her hair slowly. Lila had been ready to blow out the torch for an hour now and she's tapping her foot restlessly on her bed, eyes skimming over a text book she has for her exams tomorrow.

Teagan's blue eyes watches her friend from the claw held mirror and waits, she knows how long it takes Lila to fall asleep, just a few more leg shakes aaaand- poof.

She's snoring in moments. The heavy book falls to the floor with a dull thud.

Teagan smiles softly to herself and flicks her wand at the torch on the wall, dimming the light just enough to be soothing to ensure her friend stays asleep.

Tonight, Teagan was going to break the biggest rule of the academy. Going out after curfew. She takes a deep breath and wraps her shawl around herself. She pushes her door open, cringing at the soft creak the wood lets out as she does.

She freezes, hoping the dorm monitor has already gone her rout. Hearing nothing but deafening silence, Teagan quickly tip toes out of her room and down the dimly lit hall. Her feet are bare and she shivers as she walks across the cold stone floors.

She passes the archway, grateful for the dimmed lighting, and rushes towards the shadows, slipping into one as she follows the wall closely, quietly, her thin nightdress doing nothing to keep her skin form prickling in the cold air of the empty hall.

Quickly, she rushes past any doors she has to cross while holding her breath, suddenly one of them open and Teagan makes a sharp turn and dives behind a tapestry with a rather dark scene on it. Two voices, she knows the owners of both.

Professor Ink and Gripes.

"It's the strangest thing Matilda." Gripes was saying as they walk closer towards Teagan's hiding place. "It's the eyes, I think."

Teagan feels sweat trickle down her forehead, neck, and spine. Please don't look, please-

"The girl is certainly excitable. It's would also make sense why the cards read her as a Seeker." Ink answers.

Teagan freezes, were they talking about her? Her ears strain now to catch every word, her danger forgotten for the moment.

"Do you suppose Headmistress knows?" Gripes says in a sharp whisper.

"I suppose she suspects something, but we can't be sure."

That's the moment that the worst, most horrible, feeling comes across and she knows it's all over. Teagan sneezes. And wishes she was dead since she was as good as anyway.

"Did you hear that?" Ink says, Teagan can practically hear the woman's head tilt.

"No." Gripes answers. Teagan could kiss him and his awkward ways.

Silence.

Teagan wonders if they can hear her heart trying to break her ribs.

Inks footsteps come closer to the tapestry. "I heard something, George,"

This is it, Teagan knows she's dead now. It's all over, good bye cruel world.

"Come now Matilda, you're too suspicious for your own good. It's late, cold, and you have classes in the morning." Gripes says unwittingly helpful to a poor fourteen year old planning her own funeral behind a tapestry.

Ink hesitates. Then, thank Gripes, walks away.

Teagan waits a full five minutes before she dares to let out a breath of relief. Quickly, she slides out of the hiding place, the cold air cooling her hot cheeks, and makes her way to the Potions classroom. She chooses to file the conversation she overheard for later.
