It's Really You (Newt Scamander x Reader)

Chapter 28: Awkwardness, Talks and Songs

After a few moments you were the first one to break the intense eye contact and climbed out of your case. You quickly turned around and bent down, closing the lid of the case. Meanwhile, Newt only started to climb out of his case. You stayed kneeling on the floor for a few moments, head down, using your hair to cover your burning cheeks.

Newt got out and slowly started to make his way towards the table full of food, his head hanging low. When he reached the chair and pulled it back, you stood up and made your way towards the table and sat down. You all were sitting the same way you sat when you had first stayed at the Goldstein apartment. When you slowly sat down beside Queenie, she giggled at you and began eating. Well, that was awkward!

The whole dinner was quiet. Even Queenie and Jacob didn't chat at all. But you noticed Tina giving you and Newt weird stares. It was strange and made you tense up. You didn't understand why would she do that. Well, it was quite obvious why she stared at Newt, but you. It's not like Newt had feelings for you anyway.

Your own thoughts made you sad, and now you wanted to get away from everyone. You weren't used to communicating with so many people at once and for a long period of time. Thankfully, you already managed to finish your meal. You had to admit that Queenie's cooking was really good.

"Thank you so much, Queenie. I really must go now." You said while standing up.

You wanted to grab your dish but Queenie interrupted you.

"It's okay, honey. Go take care of your creatures." She said sweetly to you, but her smile didn't quite reach her eyes, they looked almost... concerned.

You just smiled and nodded slightly before turning around and heading towards your case. While you walked you quickly glanced at Newt, who just finished eating his own meal. Thankfully, you were already halfway down into the case when he stood up.

This time you didn't stop to stare at the photo of Newt and quickly made your way to the food storage room. You grabbed a few buckets in your hands and made the others float after you while you exited your shed. You had your own technique in feeding your creatures. You placed all of the buckets of feed in a few rows on the floor with their handles popped up. Then you used your old broom by hanging the buckets on the broom and walking around with it. You knew that it wasn't quite necessary, knowing that you could just make the buckets float in the air, but it was something that made it all just a little bit more magical.

When you used your broom to pick up the first row of the buckets, Twinkie appeared next to you. You could tell that she was very hungry, but she tried not to show it. You raised your dog to have manners.

After all of your creatures were fed and happy, including Twinkie and Puffskein, who were currently taking a nap besides eachother, you busied yourself with making more food for the next feeding.

"Is that Newt?" You suddenly heard Queenie ask, which made you jump slightly.

You turned to the direction from where her voice was coming from. Queenie was standing in the doorway of the shed looking at the photos you kept.

"Yes." You answered quietly, suddenly tensing up and returning back to making food.

"He's kinda cute, don't you think?" She asked.

How the bloody hell were you supposed to answer?!

"I...I suppose so..." You managed to blur out.

What was Queenie trying to do? For a few moments she was silent and then it hit you.

"Please don't read my mind."

You tried to continue working and pretending that Queenie wasn't reading your mind, but it was clear that she already knew more than you would like her to know. Now, she probably knew more about you than Newt did.
