I had only 30 minutes to write this in class with a certain amount of vocabulary words I had to use, so this story isn't the best, but I thought that it was a good idea, I'm just bad at writing lol

The end was near. I could smell it, the horrible smell of blood and bile on the streets. I could hear the whimpers of my sister in the bed across from me. She was sick, and so was I. So was everyone in town. Everyone was dropping quicker than flies. The Sickness, as my family called it, had swept through the town in less than a month. There was no use in going to the hospital anymore, there was no treatment on the face of earth that could save us. It hit Mrs. Jenkins first, that poor sweet old lady that lived downtown. Everyone loved her. Next was Neil Ryans, the guy that ran the hotdog cart across the desolate street. His small kiosk still stands abandoned in its spot, not that anyone really notices anymore. There's not a single person in our town that hasn't been infected, infact my family was one of the only one's left. at first people tried to escape, but it was too late, the thoroughfare had already been shut down by the time the disease was noticed.

It was just before sunrise that I finally started to drift off, my dreams a mighty citadel against the harsh reality, when I heard her, "Ashton?" my sister asked softly, her voice hoarse. "Yeah?" I replied. "I'm scared." She cried. "I know, me too, but we'll be fine" I lied, I knew nothing could help, but I couldn't tell her that. Becca was so effervescent and energetic before, but now all she could do is lay in bed. "No we're not," she replied, "I may be young, but I'm not stupid, I know what's going to happen and we can't stop it," she had to stop talking due to a coughing fit that racked her frame. "We can't stop it," she continued, "but at least we have each other, and that will never change." I should have known she'd say something like that, she always was a smart and prodigious child.

And she was right, at least we had each other.

Sorry it's short and I didn't feel like changing it too much
