"Fuck. My nightmares are going to come true... he's hoping to get to me by hurting you." Maddie's face pales to a ghostly white.

"We are not going to ignore the fact that you, Sam, and your grandparents are also in great danger when he walks. And we have a plan, but it's not one either of you are going to enjoy."

Maddie's POV

"Madison!" Grams grins at me as I fall into the bleacher chair beside her, but the grin falls quickly as she takes notice of my red rimmed eyes and my lack of an escort in the Māori variety.

"What happened? Where is Calum?" She frowns, pulling me into her arms.

"Gone." Is all I can manage before curling into my knees and trying to keep myself calmed down.

"Gone? No way, that boy loves you far, far, too much to just be gone suddenly." Gramps looks angry.

"Well everyone who loves me leaves me when Chris comes back into ths picture. He's too much, and I can't blame Calum, he has a life, a band, and career to look out for. So he's headed back to LA. I'll win this fight on my own again." I spit harshly, curling into an even tighter ball in my chair.

"But-" "Please Grams! I don't want to talk about it. We will all go to the hearing tomorrow, we will all live through whatever happens. And then we will go back to LA. We'll stay at my apartment until I can sell it and buy some place with a couple more rooms. Where do you want to live? We could go anywhere in the country."

"We want to live where you will be happy, and where we will be safe, Maddie. What really happened? Calum was ready to take every blow Chris was about to give. He was ready to die for you, and you cannot convince us otherwise. Did you end it to protect him? Did you get scared of what might happen and send him off to live his life without you?" Gramps frowns, shaking his head at me.

"Does it matter? We aren't together anymore. Calum and I broke up. Even if I did it, he didn't fight me on it. He seemed relieved to have the change to bolt. Just because he was willing to stay doesn't mean he wanted to. Maybe he just thought I was too much of a fucking charity case to let go of." I snap, my insides burning as I try to stay in control.

"Okay, okay. I'm sorry, Madison. We are both sorry. He just seemed like maybe he'd be the one." Grams sighs, rubbing my arms in an attempt to comfort me.

"Well apparently I wasn't his one." I mumble, my chest aching at the thought.
