"She wasn't doing so hot either. She's over being blonde, over living in secret, and mostly over being away from you. So as dumb as your move was, as her grandfather, I thank you."
"Glad to help. And I ain't complaining, I haven't seen my girl in nearly six months, I need to see her." I smile, glancing out the window as I hear an unusual sound.
Maddie's POV
"Where are they?" I ask, pacing around the hotel room, Gramps should have been back with Cal almost an hour ago by my calculations.
"Calm down, Maddog, he probably had fans that he got caught up with, and maybe they hit traffic too. Don't panic until we know something is wrong." Sam stands, bringing me into his chest tightly.
"But this time, Sam, this time it could be something bad." I whisper.
"We don't know that for sure." He barely has a chance to finish his statement before I'm pulling away. My phone fumbling to the floor as I try to pull it out of my pocket. My hands shaking as I go to pick it up, Howard's name on the screen.
"He-hello?" I swallow hard.
"They caught him. They have Chris."
"What!?" I gasp, a hand clapping over my mouth in shock as tears spring to my eyes.
"He is currently in surgery at the Austin Medical Center, his blood alcohol level was really high. He hit another car, it was a bad accident."
"Fuck! Grams we gotta go now!" I yell, my body refilling with panic.
"Why?" Sam asks quickly.
"Just call an Uber please." I wave him off, but the tone of my voice must be enough since he immediately listens.
"Is something wrong, Madison?" Howard asks quickly.
"My grandpa went to pick up Calum from his hotel about two hours ago and they haven't made it here yet. I lived with that man for ten years Howard. If anyone can purposefully cause a wreck while drunk it's him. I think it was deliberate, and I have a feeling there are two other people in trouble at that same hospital."
"I can call the hospital to find out if you'd like? As Mr. Hood's legal counsel I can get information on him."
"Would you? We are heading there now."
"Call me if you get information first. I'll do the same."
"Talk soon." I nod, yanking Sam and Grams from the room as soon as I'm off the phone.
"So what's wrong?" Grams asks as we sit in the back of the Uber.
"They caught Chris, with alcohol in his blood, after a massive car crash. Gramps and Cal are how late back to the hotel? I'm thinking the two events are related." I close my eyes, trying to focus on keeping my breathing steady and not the worst outcomes that could be waiting for us. The conclusion I came to seems to be enough to stop the questions, neither of them asking more for long while as we travel across town.
"Mads..." Sam's voice is grave as he grabs my arm.
"Wha-" I freeze as we pass slowly through an intersection. The car Gramps had left in this morning laying crushed on a tow truck, both the passenger and driver side doors torn off. The roof caved in and front window shattered out.
