A Fluffy Filler and Baking

It's been a few weeks now since you started  working at the Big Donut, and met Steven who has now become one of your very best friends. He would visit you almost every day at work, and you would tease him about it sometimes, saying "miss me already?" or " it's only been one day."

Steven would become embarrassed and often use the excuse: "I'm actually just here for a donut this time." At first, you believed him, but after several times of him saying so, you realized he would never actually order anything. Steven still liked donuts, but he's been trying to cut down on the sugar. You haven't brought it up though, you figured you teased him enough and would let it slide. It flattered you anyway, knowing he was there for you.

You still didn't like your job, but with Steven around most days, you felt more confident interacting with the residents of Beach City.  Mr. Dewey didnt mind for the most part, but once in a while he would threaten to kick Steven out for distracting you, but he was mostly joking.

The best part about that job, besides seeing Steven, was the money. You bought a phone as soon as you could get it. You were so excited to be able to call and text Steven, and your mom approved as well, since she could now find out where you'd be and stopped worrying.

Speaking of your mother, she had actually met Steven after your sleepover a while back. Steven had driven you home the next day, revealing he did, in fact, have a car, and the sleepover wasn't necessary. You chose to ignore that as well, because that day was the most fun you've had in a long time.

At first your mom was skeptical of Steven. I mean, some guy just appears and suddenly your daughter is gone for longer than she's ever been? Couldn't blame her. But when she saw you interact with him, it was obvious he was a gentleman for the most part. Steven was kind of a goof, but your mother appreciated it. His personality clashed with yours, making things interesting and pushing you outside of your comfort zone, but still making you feel comfortable, because he was quite understanding.

On the topic of ' outside your comfort zone' , Steven encouraged you often to consider singing at the talent show that was in a couple months. Your answer changed from a " maybe" or completely avoiding the question, then became a hard "no" when Steven got a little too pushy. He just though it would help you become more open and social, plus he really, and I mean really, wanted to hear you sing again. He just craved it; it was so rare to hear and sounded  so beautiful to him.

The teen got lucky one day, when he went to your house to pick you up. You were going to see a movie. Steven must've arrived a bit earlier than expected because you weren't ready yet. Your mom told him to wait downstairs, and you were still unaware of his presence in the house. That's when he heard it- you started singing. It was very faint because you were upstairs, but he heard it nonetheless.  And when your mom commented "she never used to sing like that, until she met you" Steven swelled up with pride and admiration. You were mortified to say the least, when you found out later. Steven chose not to talk much about the incident because of that, but, oh boy, did he think about it.

But one fateful day, Steven asked you very, very carefully, to sing with him at the talent show. Your answer was yes, begrudgingly, but a yes nonetheless. Steven's reaction was certainly worth it though; he practically squealed, and lifted you into a big cuddly hug, jumping and spinning you around. This is when you found out about of one Steven's powers, a super jump. You had never seen it before, but when you looked out during the hug, you were 30 feet off the ground! You screamed, which made Steven realize what he did, and after you both slowly floated down, he explained that he can jump very high, especially when in a good mood.

And presently, Steven has just found out about one of your few hobbies: baking. You weren't great at it, but it was something you enjoyed. Steven discovered your hobby when you brought over a cake to his house one day, and insisted you should bake together sometime.  Today was that day. You were gonna make homemade cinnamon rolls from scratch.

"Alright Steven, we're gonna need flour, sugar, cinnamon, butter..." You read off the ingredients on your phone as Steven gathered them on the kitchen counter.

" Alright so we need to combine this stuff to make the dough." You continued, pointing to a few ingredients. Steven nodded excitedly.

"Piece of cake!"

" Steven we're making cinnamon rolls."

"You know what I mean!" He smirked, and you both chuckled at the ever so hilarious joke. You preheated the oven, and started whipping the icing that would be drizzled on top of the rolls. Eventually Steven began kneading the dough on the counter but it was so sticky and he was having a hard time handling it. Frustrated, he groaned and said

"What in the universe is wrong with this dough?"

You turned to look at him, snickering. " It just kneads  a little more love."

The boy next to you laughed. "I've been nothing but loving!!" To which you silently agreed with in your head. He soon found out that a little more flour was required to make it less sticky. The recipe was coming together, you placed the finished icing in the fridge, Steven finished the dough, and flatten it so you could add the cinnamon sugar mix on the inside. You rolled it up, sliced it, and into the oven it went.

"Are you even gonna eat these?" You questioned, sitting at the table while the rolls were baking. Steven tilted his head a bit.

"What do you mean?"

" Well I know you cut back on your sugar intake, and this definitely has sugar in it." You explained. Steven thought for a moment,

"...Well, I'll definitely have at least one; I want to know if all our hard work pays off. I hope it's delicious." You nodded and turned to look at the oven.

" We should see if they're done. "

You turned the oven light on and both of you peeked inside. You saw the cinnamon rolls rised up a little wonky, causing the tops of them to be quite brown, but not burnt. You frowned a bit.

"Let's just pretend they're supposed to look like that, ok?" You giggled. Steven agreed and you could tell by his face that he was about to say something silly.

"Bake it til you make it!" He said triumphantly.

" I can't believe you sometimes."

Steven took them out of the oven and let them cool, but after a bit you grew impatient and poked them to see if they were ready for icing. Unfortunately when you poked a farther one in the tray, the inside of your arm, close to your wrist, touched the hot tray. You hissed in pain from the small burn.

" Oh my stars, are you alright Y/n? Here lemme see that" Steven immediately came to your aid and gently took your arm in his hands.

"Steven it's just a little bur-" you stopped, watching him as he leaned over and placed the softest kiss on the inside of your arm. Poof! The pain was gone, and you felt tingly and magical. His eyes met yours and smiled when your face morphed into complete utter surprise when the burn simply disappeared like it was never there.

You couldn't believe your eyes. So the most logical thing in your mind was to do it again! You slapped your hand on the hot tray and yelped.

" Y/n stop! What was that for! Don't burn yourself on purpose!" He said and once again took your hand and kissed your palm, the injury vanishing.

You were astonished. "You can heal people instantly?!?"

"Yes, now don't hurt yourself again!" Steven exclaimed and stood between you and the cinnamon rolls.

"But why not? You could just heal me right?"

Steven sighed at looked at you with worried eyes. " Yes, but I don't want to see you in pain. Never again. " You blushed with a cheeky smile and replied:

"Y'know, for someone who doesn't eat a lot of sugar, you sure are sweet." Steven turned a bit red at the compliment.

" That was cheesy."

You ended your baking adventure by consuming the now cooled, icing covered cinnamon rolls. They were funny looking, but indeed delicious, so much so, Steven had three.

Thanks for reading! This was mostly a filler chapter so I could continue with the plot, but I tried to make it fluffy, hope it worked 😝.
