Lisa practically ran back out to Jennie after retrieving her belongings from the Agency's break room. Jennie was right where Lisa had left her and as she drew nearer, her steps slowed and she took a few extra seconds to enjoy how happy and content she felt in this moment - she had succeeded in securing the future of their Agency, her colleagues were all going to get to continue doing the work that they all loved and had dedicated an enormous amount of time and energy toward, and Lisa was able to share it all with the most beautiful woman in the world. She felt incredible.
Jennie's back was to her and she couldn't help but reach out to run her hand along Jennie's shoulder down the length of her arm, drawing Jennie's attention to her.
"Hey there," Jennie smiled warmly, turning around to face her. "Ready when you are."
After a short ride, the two women found themselves outside Lisa's old watering hole, Ye Old Tavern, where all significant things in her post-college life were celebrated, mourned and processed.
Lisa led the way to the main entrance of the establishment, holding the door open to let Jennie walk through. Still feeling a bit bold, she caught Jennie as she passed through the doorway, linking arms with her as they continued inside. Their presence in the restaurant did not go unnoticed by the other patrons. A number of its occupants - men and women alike - turned to eye the two women up as they spoke with the host about securing a table. Lisa, having noticed the looks they were earning before Jennie did, leaned in close to share the news.
"Don't look now, but I'm pretty sure we've been found out," Lisa said with a bit of a giggle. She was already enjoying the evening and she was still completely sober.
Jennie tilted her head to one side and did her best to discretely scan the crowd. "I believe you are correct, Ms. Manoban. It appears we have some admirers." Jennie turned her attention back to Lisa, locking gazes for a moment as a mischievous look stole over her features.
"Oh no. No, no, no," Lisa shook her head, emphatically. "I don't know what you're thinking, but you can just stop right there."
"You have absolutely no idea what I'm thinking, but I doubt you'd be protesting this much if you actually knew," Jennie chuckled, squeezing Lisa's hand where it still remained curled around Jennie's upper arm. Lisa blushed and looked away for a moment, trying to hide the grin that was threatening to take over her face.
"Well that remains to be seen. Now, how about we go grab a couple of drinks over at the bar to get this celebration started," Lisa suggested.
"Don't' forget, it's on me tonight. You're my guest of honor, so no trying to be chivalrous and pay the tab before I have the chance," Jennie warned, surprising Lisa with her preemptive strike on what was most definitely Lisa's original plan.
"Yeah, yeah, fine, whatever," she grumbled jokingly, earning her another of Jennie's amazing smiles. 'That gummy smile is going to be the death of me,' the blonde sighed inwardly.
Still arm-in-arm, they worked their way over to the bar. Once there, Jennie pulled her arm from Lisa's grasp, leaving Lisa with an irrational sense of loss. But before Lisa could reflect on it any more, Jennie's hand had found a new spot on the small of Lisa's back. She could barely breathe; her whole body felt like liquid goo. Jennie, not having any idea how this was affecting her, turned to ask her what she wanted to drink. Lisa just stared at her mouth, not registering a single sound coming from it. All she could feel was Jennie's hand; all she could hear was the loud whooshing sound of her own blood pumping in her ears.
