People rush around me in all different directions as I try and to figure out where the office is. I feel like I'm in the middle of a tornado. It's horrible. I can't even think straight because there's so many people shouting and moving all at once. Nobody seems to have spotted out the new girl yet inside this big crowd.
I'm now thinking that it was a bad idea to have left Four. I turn in a circle scanning the tops of everyone's head but I'm too short to see many faces. I rise up onto my tip toes and crane my neck still searching for him when someone bumps into me.
The two of us fall onto the ground. I scream as someone almost steps on me, not even noticing me on the ground. I curl up into a little ball and hold my hands over my head to protect myself.
Seconds later I find myself pulled back up onto my feet. "Let's get you out of here." A girl with short black hair has my wrist in her hand. I nod my head and let her drag me out of the are into a less crowed hallway where we're both able to stand without getting jostled by someone walking past us.
"Sorry about knocking you over. I'm Christina by the way." She drops my wrist and smiles down at me.
"Tris." I smile at her for a second before straightening myself out again. Before the girl can walk off I ask her for help. "Can you point me in the direction of the main office? I'm new here." I tell her.
"Sure. Why don't you just follow me. It's kind of complicated." She responds. I nod my head and take off beside her as she guides me to where I want to go. "So Tris what grade are you in?" She questions me.
"Junior. You?" I question her back.
"Same. So what made you come here?"
"My parents go divorced so I moved here from Chicago with my dad." I explain to her.
"I'm sorry. It sucks to have divorced parents. I should know because my have been separated since I was three." She tells me a little about her parents.
"That's awful." Is all I can say.
"Ehh." She pushes it away like it's nothing. She must really be used to it then."If they never separated I would have had to listening to their bickering all the time. And that would had driven me insane." She keeps babbling. I listen to her the entire time until we get to the office. She walks me inside and waits at the door for me as I talk to the receptionist at the front desk.
"How can I help you?" The woman asks. I pull out my schedule and put it down in front of her so she can read it.
"I'm Beatrice Prior." I tell her my name. The lady logs me onto her computer and takes down some of my information. She tells me about everything I really need to know and sends me off with a map and my locker combination. I thank her then run out if the room with Christina at my side.
"Where's your locker?" She questions me right away. I show her the paper and let her read it. "East hall number 2704." She reads it out loud. "That's right next to my locker." She tells me cheerfully. Christina hands me back the paper and I shove it into my pocket with my map and my cell phone. "Come on, I'll show you where that is." She grabs my hand and tugs me down the hallway after her.
I shake my head thinking to myself how I got into all of this. How can I already know somebody like her? I find it really funny that me of all people know someone like Christina and I smile to myself.
A minute later Christina bring me over to my locker. It just to happens to be on the top which is nice. Christina opens her locker in seconds. It takes me a minute to figure out the combination and when I do, the lock pops off in seconds. I set my bag down on the ground and open it up. I put all my binders inside then check my schedule to see what I need to bring with me.
My schedule reads:
Period 1: French
Period 2: English
Period 3: Art
Period 4: Physics
Period 5: World History
Lunch : Block 2
Period 6: Health (1,3,5,) / Gym (2,4,6,)
Period 7: Geometry
I put my french, english, and physics binders into my bag then zip it up. I shut my locker door and scream as I find Christina leaning up against her locker staring at me. She smiles as I jump back and bring my hand up to my chest. "You scared me." I tell her gasping.
Christina just laughs at me for a few seconds then picks her bag up off the floor and puts it on her shoulders. I feel someone taze me and I jump and scream all over again. I turn around and find Four standing there with an evil grin on my face. Christina bursts into even more laughter. "Don't do that." I squeal.
"I'm sorry." he apologizes to me as I grab my bag and sling it over one shoulder. His tone of voice tells me he doesn't tell me he really means it. I don't care though because I know he was just playing with me. I wonder how long he was behind me until he did that. I didn't feel him breathing on the back of my neck so he must have ran over to me. I wouldn't have heard him too because of all the noise in the hallway from the others who walk past us.
Christina stops laughing after another minute or two. She snatches my schedule from my hands and glances over it quickly. "Hey we have english, art, and health together." She exclaims. She holds my schedule out to me to take. I reach out to take it when Four reaches over my shoulder and snatches it from her before I can take it back.
"Hey!" I yell at him. I whirl around and try and take it back from him. He quickly extends his arm upwards so it's out of my reach. I sigh and wait for him to finish reading it so I can take it back from him.
"Hmmm." He lowers his arm then hands me back my paper. I find it neatly up against my locker then put it back into my pocket. "Interesting." Four speaks over my shoulder.
I turn around and look him in the eye. "He has every single class with you except for english and physics." Christina pipes in as she joins my side. I turn to her skeptical.
"You know his entire schedule?" I question her shocked.
"Why wouldn't I? We're best friends." She says throwing an arm over Four's shoulders. He tilts his head and smiles jokingly.
"If only I had a camera." I joke. Four pushes Christina off of him as the two laugh at me and my slight attempt at making a joke.
The bell rings and makes me jump from it's sound. Four takes a step towards me then squeezes his way in between the locker and me. He wraps an arm around my shoulders and pulls me into him. Before I can question what he's doing he leans down and whispers in my ear. "It's okay Tris. There's no need to be afraid of the bell." He pulls away and looks up at Christina like nothing happened.
Christina turns her head eyeing both of us when Four tilts his head again and speaks rather quickly. "Sometimes it scares me too." Then he tilts his head back so it's straight again. I duck down and back up to get out from under his arm and he alights at me. "The perks of being small." He laughs at me and I can't help but laugh back at him.
"I'm ditching you two love birds. I don't want to be late." Christina speaks up. Before I have to wave good bye to her, she spins on her heels and walks off.
"We should get going too." four tells me. I nod my head and keep quiet as he leads me down the hallway to our first period class.
