"live happily ever after"
•••
Hayley and Jasper slightly trailed behind Edward and Bella as the four walked through the grassy field. The couple gripped each other's hands as Jake came out of the trees and walked up to them. They were going to test a way to hid Bella from the newborn army that was on it's way.
"You're not fighting?" Jake asked Edward. "What, did you pull a muscle or something?"
"He's doing it for me, okay?" Bella told him.
"Whatever," Jake said, turning to Jasper. "Just tell me the plan."
"This field will give us an advantage in battle," Jasper said. "We need to lure the newborns with Bella's scent, but it needs to end here."
"Edward and I are going to a campsite," Bella informed, making Jake glance at Hayley. "Even if he carries me, they'll still pick up on our scents."
"Your stench, however, is revolting," Edward commented.
"Dude, you really don't wanna start comparing stinks," Jake said.
"Enough," Hayley scolded. "Both of you."
"What he means is that your scent will mask mine if you carry me," Bella said.
Jacob nodded, "done."
"This is not a good idea," Edward said.
"Edward, they won't want to get anywhere near his odor," Jasper told him.
"This is the best option," Hayley added.
"Okay," Bella said, walking over to Jake. "Let's just try it."
The three watched as Bella awkwardly placed her arm around Jake's neck. Without breaking eye contact with Edward, the wolf lifted the human girl off the ground with ease and held her close to his chest.
"Eau de wolf coming up," Jake said.
"Run," Edward retorted.
Jake ran off with Bella, leaving Hayley alone with the two vampires. The new plan gave the dhampir hope that Bella would be okay, but Edward still seemed skeptical.
"This is going to work," Hayley told him.
A pained look crossed the vampire's face. "I can't lose her," he said.
"And you won't," Hayley assured.

The vampires came to the conclusion that there plan had worked. Jake's wolf smell was strong enough to mask Bella's, making it impossible to find her. This brought great relief to the dhampir. She was still uneasy about leaving Bella, but she trusted Edward.
