"What's this?" Herobrine's voice catches your attention, and you look to see him standing over a single, black wool block placed in the center of your room.
"I don't know." You take a step closer. "I didn't put it there. Maybe an Enderman?"
"Possible, but they usually stick to the same blocks." Herobrine taps it and it shrinks, flying up to his hand. "I doubt Steve would do something like this."
"Yeah, no. Not much point." You agree. Shedding your sandals, you kick them aside and sit down on the edge of the double bed. "I'm sticking with the Enderman theory."
"Mm."
"Speaking of which, have you seen Manfred yet?"
"I have not." Herobrine sits down on the other side. "I suppose he hasn't realized we've arrived yet."
"Probably." You stretch out on the bed, falling back to let your head sink into the pillow. It's always weird the first night back here. The smell is always unusual, being earthy and musky rather than the familiar scent of fluorescent ceiling lights. Not in a bad way, just... different. Like spending the night at a friend's house.
Herobrine lays down beside you, an arm slipping around your waist as he pulls you against him, and you smile as your eyes fall shut. This is familiar.
"Goodnight." He murmurs as he taps a button and the redstone lamps flicker out.
"Goodnight." You whisper back.
Neither of you see a pitch-black figure as it creeps through the darkness.
Year 2389
The sun has set, and the mobs are coming out.
Stretching his arms above his head, Null leans back against the tree, watching as skeletons, zombies, creepers, and endermen blink into existence. Notch may have severed his connection to them, but he can still take command of their armies once more. He doesn't need to take over their minds - although, that would be handy - as long as he can talk them into letting him rise to power once more.
Though... he doesn't actually know if the rogue group of mobs still existed. Perhaps they had defected back to their former master?
Only one way to find out.
Stepping out of the shadow of the trees, he calls out,
"Creatures of the night!" Immediately, many of the mobs turn to face him, examining him with anything from confusion to malice in their contorted faces. "Do you know who I am?"
".lluN" An Enderman speaks. ".uoy wonk ew ,seY"
"Good. Then it may interest you to know that I plan to rise to power once more."
"Kill him." Immediately, the air fills with arrows as a skeleton gives the order. Snatching a sword out of his inventory, Null ducks back, using the tree for cover as the projectiles rain down around him.
"You're going to regret this!" He snaps from behind his shelter. "While I may have failed once, I am still more powerful than you can ever imagine!"
"That is why we must take you out here." The skeleton rattles, firing off another arrow. He is loyal, then. Grasping an Ender Pearl in his free hand, he tosses it out behind him, landing behind the leader and taking him out with a swift blow.
He makes short work of the rest of the mobs. They can't be allowed to warn their master, after all.
Once he's dealt with the group, he moves on. The next mobs he comes across have a similar reaction, and he slaughters them as well. Growing frustrated, he repeats this method, over, and over, and over.
Finally, an Enderman cowers away from him, falling to his knees as the AI approaches.
".tnaw uoy tahw wonk I"
"And you will not recklessly charge into battle?" Null raises an eyebrow. "Like the rest?"
".oN"
"Then what will you do instead?"
".esuac ruoy nioj lliw I .teser eb ot hsiw ton od I"
"You hold no loyalty for your master, then?"
".enoN"
"Very good." Snapping his fingers, Null gestures him upwards, and the Enderman rises to his full height. "You will be the first of many."
".hsiw uoy tahw si taht fi ,uoy nioj ot srehto dnif nac I"
"It is. But know this." Null lifts his sword to the mob's throat, relishing in his shuffle backwards as he feels the fear pouring off the simple mob. "Betray me, and I will find you."
".dootsrednU" The Enderman bows his head, then teleports away. Null sheathes his sword. One down, many more to go.
